A new Swedish retrofit product has been announced guaranteeing a heat pump SCOP of 10 for just £199!

The system combines a heat-recovery TRV with an adaptive outdoor sensor using reverse weather compensation to dynamically reduce system demand and recycle internal heat gains.

I want one and plan to add it to my Christmas list, along with the repeal of the second law of thermodynamics.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.

I enthusiastically started watching the video, even though the 10 seemed way too good, then the size of the valve seemed miraculously small, the concept of reverse wc odd, but I kept going because I wanted it to be true. Well done Mars, you gave me a good laugh and made my day!

I reads this is not available outside 01/04. Best to buy half a dozen, as it will fly off the shelves...

And don´t forget to get a few plug in PV kits as well. It seems Ed found a way to make them 60% efficient.. 😆

I fear you may be right!

Im still up for supporting the repeal of the second law of thermodynamics.  Now there is a policy for (the many) crackpot politicians to whom the truth means very little.

With enough PV and fudging definitions to mean COP = heat output / grid input it's doable

@jamespa

My proposal to improve that Swedish approach: at the electric power supply, swap L and N on warm days to make the heat pump reverse, thus cooling down rooms while converting heat gain into electric energy.
