Interesting. Not bad, given that you’re getting BG backing. Will look into it.

service, breakdown repair, parts and labour, not just the heat pump but entire system. Looks a bit too good to be true for not much more than the price of a service. See if you can find the downsides please. The other oddity is that it’s hidden away, not where I’d expect to find it with the other heating cover.
I’ve used their electrical appliance cover in the past and it’s no good for older appliances where the repair is more than the cost of a replacement. They give you 30% off the replacement, so not really a replacement. So I stopped. Drain cover is great though if you have dozens of trees constantly trying to bore their way into your drains.
- i assume ALL filters cleaned
- i did not check t&c but wonder if the cover for systems "under warranty" will somehow need proof of active warranty? Not easily done?
Or just needs to be within the warranty period for the system. E.g. 5, 7 or 10 years? E.g. if a service has been missed then the warranty terms may be broken? Will BG potentially accept such kit?

@editor that’s very interesting. I have been hectoring BG for a service arrangement since I had mine installed back in June 2024, by BG, Who then decided they were NOT offering service contracts. But don’t get too excited because their customer service for heat pumps is, based on my experience, appalling. Unlike with gas boilers they don’t offer 24/7 call centre, nor any weekend cover and during the week only 9-5. But they never have any engineer availibility and when they do eventually send someone…
i am surprised I haven’t been notified of this, but I will look into it, as last year for a one off they were charging, I think it was £249.
I checked the details of the "heating cover" package and the repairs to the "heating and hot water system" doesn't actually include the heat pump. That's like having a contract that doesn't actually include your boiler. Not sure I'd want to pay £23.99/month to discover the main part of the "heating and hot water system" isn't actually covered. To me this translates to a "service" that is largely inspection only, and if there's anything wrong, then you are on your own.
What’s not included
- Repair or replacement of your heat pump or controls. This could be covered under an active heat pump warranty – please check any paperwork relating to the purchase of your heat pump for details
Samsung 12kW gen6 ASHP with 50L volumiser and all new large radiators. 7.2kWp solar (south facing), Tesla PW3 (13.5kW)
Solar generation completely offsets ASHP usage annually. We no longer burn ~1600L of kerosene annually.
@old_scientist But a standard warranty validation service, which is going to be a similar amount, also doesn’t include parts or repair labour. I think the key is to understand if BG is authorised by the manufacturer to discharge warranty repairs too. In which case, if your warranty is still valid then it seems a thorough insurance. In my case, there a 7 year warranty still remaining so it might be of value as it does exclude the entire system. If you are out of warranty then maybe it doesn’t give value.
@terry1812 I think BG installs get a fiver a month discount, if I read it right. It must be new, I asked the homecare team about 3 months ago if they did this to add to my drain cover, they said no.

I wonder if that is because they subcontract the call outs and most if not nearly all ASHP and AC contractors have very limited cover at weekends as no one wants to pay £900 a day for the services if they are called out.
AAC Group Ltd covering the Kent Area for design, supply and installation of ASHP systems, service and maintenance, diagnostics and repairs.
Ours was £132 in 2023,
As there is no highly flammable (R410a) or parts that if failed could be particularly dangerous in my unit, i decided to service every 3 years.
Of course on a part i am unable to change myself, ad-hoc is always an available option.
I think you may have a good point, it’s a big fridge. When I looked at it, everything is sealed and there are no consumables. I estimated the most likely failure point were rodents making it their home and snacking on the wiring, so I leave a bait trap near it.
