If you've never played (or heard of) Pirate Fluxx, then I recommend it.
It's the best of the Fluxx varients, and very suitable for drawing a crowd together at a pub 🍻

However, I seem to have drawn the conversation so far away from the topic title that my more serious question about the bore and insulation of Mars' underground pipes has been overlooked.

As promised, here's Cap'n Burrows delivering on his promise during a long day of filming. Nearly fours of raw content to edit! Enjoy the short clip.

Thank you. That simultaneously answers my question about the bore and level of pipe insulation for the underground section.

Now we know one of the causes of global warming! 🤨

After our recent heat pump ordeal, we learned a hard lesson: there are key system accessories you MUST discuss with your installer. Never let them skip a proper air release product because trapped air is a nightmare!

We spoke with @pirate-rich to identify upgrades that can make a difference. Arm yourself with the right questions to ask before your installation.

Merely having air-release valves present isn't enough.
They also need to be placed at the highest points in the pipework because that's where the air will collect.

Look at this photo of a cylinder fitted sideways on in a cramped attic space:

Exactly what I said in the video, and that is one of the worst AAVs in the market, so they can expect leaks in the future.

Even that may not be enough.  Air can still collect, it seems, at local high points eg tall radiators, which will need to be manually bled unless also fitted with an an ARV.  Despite having an ARV at what is otherwise the highest point, I have 2 tall radiators one of which had to be bled every other day for a month and one of which I had to bleed recently.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
