@majordennisbloodnok That’s OK as long as the ‘Terminological Inexactitude Filters’ don’t get clogged up every day. Toodles.

Did @mark-hall really just say that?! 🤯 He dropped a BLEEP-worthy bombshell describing heat pump owners. What do you think those bleeped words are? Tell us below! 👇

For a split second, I thought RHH had scaled dramatically without me noticing and that I’ve just signed one of Europe’s largest renewable energy deals. Busy week. 🤣

Technology is rapidly advancing.

BBC News reported that three armed drones crossed into Kuwait.

Innovative! That's 50% more than I have.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about energy lately, and I’ve come to a firm conclusion: renewable energy just isn’t reliable enough.

I mean, let’s be honest, what happens when the wind doesn’t blow? Or the sun doesn’t shine? You can’t run a country on that. It’s common sense.

That’s why I’m sticking with something dependable. Something proven. Something that isn’t at the mercy of the weather.

I’m talking about oil and gas.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, aren’t those dependent on global supply chains, international shipping routes and geopolitical stability in regions that are, at times, slightly… tense?

Yes. But that’s different.

Because while wind turbines might stop spinning on a calm day, there’s absolutely no reason to think anything could ever interrupt the steady flow of fossil fuels around the world. It’s not like they pass through strategically sensitive chokepoints or anything. And even if they did, I’m sure that’s all very well managed.

I did briefly see something on the news about rising tensions affecting global energy supply, but I didn’t really look into it. No point getting bogged down in hypotheticals.

I just want an easy, reliable life.

And when I think ‘reliable,’ I think of a system where energy prices can spike overnight, supply can tighten with very little warning and events happening thousands of miles away can have an immediate impact on what I pay to heat my home.

At least you know where you stand.

With renewables, it’s all a bit uncertain. With fossil fuels, the uncertainty is much more structured. There’s a process to it. A rhythm.

Also, I quite like the idea that my energy supply depends on a complex web of global relationships, infrastructure and transport logistics. It feels established.

Anyway, I’ve decided I’m not taking any risks. I’m even looking into getting a backup generator, just in case things become unstable.

It runs on fuel, obviously. But that’s fine. That’s reliable.

I just think we need to be sensible about these things.

@editor I did consider whether I should keep those solar panels taking up all that valuable crop growing space… after all I won’t need them now will I? I mean there is all that nuclear power about to be unleashed - won’t need the heat pump either will I? I think it is magnificently generous of our country leaders to arrange for a few nuclear explosions…

Now, if we could only harness all that political hot air....

105 m2 bungalow in South East England
Mitsubishi Ecodan 8.5 kW air source heat pump
18 x 360W solar panels
1 x 6 kW GroWatt battery and SPH5000 inverter
1 x Myenergi Zappi
1 x VW ID3
Raised beds for home-grown veg and chickens for eggs

If I assume those connections to be the three phases do I get the job?

It could be a trick question.
Candidates with lower potential might guess at Live, Neutral and Earth.
