I did not buy the Fogstar seplos kit via ebay, where I would have probably used credit card and paypal.

But you can still claim on your credit card as you mentioned previously when bought direct, so surely you would have done a section 75 claim with Fogstar?

Fogstar also accepts PayPal, so there is no reason why you shouldn't have done a charge back for your failed Fogstar order.

You are not offering to take it up on a no win no pain basis, are you? 😉

My fogstar seplos battery has been great and the service fantastic. I don't run an active balancer but did match and top-balance the cells. I wrote a converter for the RS485 between the BMS and my inverter.

One quirk of the BMS is the factory calibration can be a little off, or was in my case, I suspect this is a very rare failure. I had to break out my 6 digit multimeter to re-calibrate it.

That´s great to hear. When I bought my battery I was not interested to write converters nor to have to wait over over a month balancing cells. And specially I did not expect to be told that the warranty would not be accepted in case I would not build it as Fogstar advised.

I just wanted the battery to do its job.

@batpred I think you probably got the wrong end of the stick with this supplier. Maybe stick to givenergy?

I am not sure who got the wrong end, after the two or three months debacle.. We are all always very polite.

In any case, I added a comparison of options in a separate thread for more contextualized discussion.

Depending on availability, they have also supplied DIY kits for which you source your own LiFePO4 cells.
There is a long discussion topic on the Fogstar upright DIY case here on this forum which is what you're now adding to!

But they won't supply the Pace BMS as a separate item because it would oppose their own product range.

Ah, it seems PACE BMS are easy to source on AliExpress, various models from £14 to £120, I am not sure which model Fogstar supply. Reading this thread, it seems many had issues with BMS's that Fogstar supplied. Perhaps it is simpler, certainly cheaper to source all the kit from AliExpress.

In my case, the SEPLOS BMS that they shipped had not been updated. I spent weeks talking to them and trying all sorts of things to get it upgraded. I am really shocked how they would not just ship one, it costs £20 on AliExpress! I think I spent £1800 on a kit!

Just wanted to share some info for anyone facing challenges with Fogstar SEPLOS BMS battery kits. The manufacturer has very clear "fixing instructions" that may help.

In terms of options for ready to use batteries, I saw the following on ebay:

- one going for £1000: Solar Energy 15kWh Home Storage Battery for Solar & Backup 51.2V 300Ah LiFePo4

- for £1100: 48V 300Ah Lithium Battery 15KWh Solar Energy For Home Storage PV BMS

- similar for ~1050: LUX-X-48100LG01 low voltage stackable LFP solar battery storage

Caveats:

I did not even order any of this ebay kit, so not a recommendation. If you purchase them and are able to share the good and the bad, that would be very helpful.

And as @transparent indicated, aliexpress may be advantageous vs ebay to source life04 batteries.

I was assuming the Fogstar battery, even with all the extra effort it took to get going, was doing a good job.

It seems that the BMS is causing some issues.

I had some glitch, which appeared to be with the inverter not working when I was setting specific periods to charge the battery. I raised this with Solis and their engineers say there seems to be a problem with the Fogstar battery - Seplos or JK BMS...

They shared the graph below. It shows that the battery is momentarily reporting a soc, voltage, etc of 0 and then it all changes back to normal. This is not normal behaviour...

I did upgrade the Seplos BMS firmware (absolute pain to get done a couple of months ago). It is the latest version 1.5 and it has been using the Pylontech protocol. Has anyone had issues with the JK BMS software, just wondering whether that needs upgrading?

Seplos show a few parameters that may need adjusting but I did not hear anything about these from Fogstar... https://www.seplos.com/11-seplos-bms-software-problems-you-might-face-and-how-to-fix-them.html

Which BMS do you mean? You say you've upgraded the Seplos BMS firmware, but then go on to say JK BMS?

It can't be both?

My battery kit came with a normal bms (seplos) that I upgraded a few months ago.

It also has another board with firmware for balancing the cells (from jk).

I think the one sending the info to the Solis inverter is the seplos..
