Please also feel free to add a signature to your profile that's displayed underneath your posts.

Please, keep your signatures short, such as your name (a sort of signature). It is not great for speech synth users visiting these forums to have the same long block of irrelevant stuff read out at the end of every post you make. Keep the longer descriptions of your heating setup on your profile: those who want to know can click through.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of an improved user tagging feature on the forums. This feature streamlines the process of mentioning other members within our platform. Now, by simply typing the "@" symbol, a pop-up window will appear, providing an auto-complete list of user names for easy reference. You can navigate through this list with the keyboard's up and down arrows and select the desired user by pressing enter. When mentioned, users will be promptly notified via email about the topic or reply in which their name appears. This feature is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance user experience and facilitate smoother communication on our site.

@iancalderbank, I have seen and experienced that too. I'll be flagging this with the hosts, and may have to shift as the site is now growing very rapidly with a lot more traffic than we've ever had.

Have you any useful/interesting stats to share with us please @editor ?

How many views per month is the Forum receiving?

Can we tell what proportion of these are from non-members?

@transparent, I'll post some stats later, and there's a lot of non-member traffic.

That's good news about non-member traffic.

I've been inserting links to posts here on the RHH Forum when I write feedback to Government Depts, National Grid, Ofgem, local Councillors, Planning Applications etc.
I want others to be seeing this site as a useful resource, whether or not they personally become members.

To help me drill down a bit further into the cause, how frequently does everyone experience this?

Over the past month I've had 1 or two failures to retrieve a page about once per day.

Not knowing what might be the cause, I tend to wait 5 minutes and then return to that Tab again.
This is almost always successful.

I usually have about 12 Forum tabs open continuously, if that helps.

@transparent, my experience is very similar, but didn't realise it was that frequent. I have the hosts trying to diagnose the issue, and may involve shifting to a more powerful server.

John Isner is a powerful server @editor

The other indication I have that there's something sluggish about the forum server, is that the screen refresh is getting slower.
It's now almost always the case that I will first see a portion of a graphic from the top of the page, but at an enormous size.

There's enough time for me to actually get a screenshot:

Screenshot from 2024 01 05 13 18 38

I've left that graphic full size, so you can see the progress notification at lower-left.

After the massive graphic disappears, I then see text from the requested page, but with no frames or formatting yet applied:

Screenshot from 2024 01 05 13 32 27

In most cases, the full page layout then arrives.
But there have been occasions when it doesn't, and I have to manually refresh the tab.

No, these page rendering lags aren't happening for other sites... just this Forum.

It matters not how may active tabs I have,
nor what else is running apart from the browser (Firefox),
nor how free memory there is.

@transparent ditto, exact same behaviour , on almost all page loads from this forum today and yesterday. at first I thought I might be having an ISP issue that I needed to debug, but its only this forum.
