@toodles

I’m going from standard to smart, not smart+. I’m on cosy in the winter too,  but everything goes through battery so tariff optimisation on smart+ would actually subtract from the economy (if only the heat pump would run for more than 40 mins at a time!)

@papahuhu I’m hoping to see some improvements and possibly greater flexibility in the next iteration of Homely firmware; I think my kit fell into the ‘control’ groups as I saw no changes at all in the app or in the way control of my ASHP went before the beta trial or during the trial, or even since. I’m awaiting an announcement from Homely but am hoping for good things…. Toodles.

@papahuhu ‘72’???!!! Being an all electric household here, I have great difficulty in rustling up enough oil for the lamps of the 3 wise virgins alone! Toodles.

More than likely my destination will be one of inferno though, one benefit though will be I won’t need a bloody heat pump to keep warm.
If you ever fancy a fascinating and somewhat tragic read, can recommend caught in the pulpit by the late Daniel Dennett.

You wont need one in heaven either which, at least according to the calculation originally published in Applied Optics, is hotter than hell  (this has been around some time and the reference is trustworthy, albeit that the theology may not be!)

@jamespa 525C, that would be nice.
Reminds me of the questions in my Oxbridge entrance exam, which I flunked with flying colours, someone should write a play about that!

@jamespa @toodles Finally, after 6 months, my heat pump is now working correctly.
The hard reset of the modbus has completely resolved the control system delinquency. Running permanently and gently on an adaptive weather comp now as opposed to a drag race previously. Once cold rooms are now warm as rads are permanently emitting, power consumption significantly down, even the noise of the unit has significantly changed for the better. A wholly reformed beast now.
Thanks for help in getting me there, all it took in the end was powering down and restarting the outside unit. I had previously reset the inside computing paraphernalia  but never the outside unit. Thanks both.

@papahuhu It is the infamous ‘Have you tried turning it off and on again Sir?’ 😳 Glad to hear that things are working properly at long last though. Toodles.

@papahuhu Err, no I haven’t! I suspect that this may be linked with ‘Polling’ and perhaps @majordennisbloodnok may be able to throw more light on this situation. I suspect that as the comms for the heat pump are indicating a comms error, then no data is being passed to Homely - under this condition I suspect that the Homely algorithm is waiting for a status change but because it cannot ‘Poll’ the non functioning comms, it sits there awaiting a change in data. I may be talking absolute carp but the Major is far more clued up on modbussery than I. Me, I am just guessing!

@toodles, I'd have indulge a significant dose of guesswork, I'm afraid.

It's not clear to me (largely through lack of familiarity with both Samsung units and Homely) whether the Samsung modbus interface draws its power from the outside unit or somewhere else. What @papahuhu posted suggests he believes it should take it from the outdoor unit and the Homely manual tends to imply this too, but it's also not clear what the Homely box is monitoring and what its LEDs are actually trying to say.

In the absence of a better understanding of the bits of kit, I'd say your explanation is as good a guess as any.

@toodles if anyone experiences the issue in the future the reference for the fix is below. There were no error or fault codes, that’s what completely threw me.

How to reset your MIM-B19N board

If your Samsung heat pump is not responding as expected, it may be due to the MIM-B19N board (a Modbus adaptor used for communication with third-party systems like Homely) freezing or needing a restart.

Homely needs this board to function correctly. If it becomes unresponsive or ‘freezes’, a quick restart usually gets things working again. Just follow the steps below.

How to Reset Your MIM-B19N Board

1. Turn off the outdoor unit

Locate the power switch on your Samsung heat pump’s outdoor unit. Use this switch to turn it off.Samsung Off Switch (1)

2. Wait for 2 minutes

Leave the unit powered off for approximately two minutes. This allows the system to fully shut down and restart.

3. Turn the outdoor unit back on

After two minutes, switch the outdoor unit back on. The MIM-B19N board will now restart.

Once the unit is powered back up, the MIM-B19N board should be reset and ready to go.

Still Having Issues?

If the board continues to cause problems after a restart, we recommend contacting your installer or Samsung support for further assistance.
