@jamespa @toodles Finally, after 6 months, my heat pump is now working correctly.
The hard reset of the modbus has completely resolved the control system delinquency. Running permanently and gently on an adaptive weather comp now as opposed to a drag race previously. Once cold rooms are now warm as rads are permanently emitting, power consumption significantly down, even the noise of the unit has significantly changed for the better. A wholly reformed beast now.
Thanks for help in getting me there, all it took in the end was powering down and restarting the outside unit. I had previously reset the inside computing paraphernalia  but never the outside unit. Thanks both.

Classic isn't it.  I will remember in future to suggest this to people experiencing odd errors.  Now I come to think of it a similar procedure was suggested when I had some errors with my Vaillant.  It turned out that the cause was a blocked filter so reset didn't fix it, but the fact it was suggested at all does indicate that it can be a problem.  Modern electronics eh!

Im glad you are now up and running.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.

@jamespa

previously it was so noisy, it was like having a diesel tractor in the garden, rattling and thumping and hissing. I’d even had 2 disputes with the neighbour over it and to be honest I agreed with them.
Now it’s just purring, god only knows what it was doing before but it’s chalk and cheese. Bloody electronics.
