I recently had a Daikin multi-split heat pump installed mainly for air conditioning in five rooms that have been over-heating in hot weather.  I occasionally use it to top up heating if the weather turns cooler. I have a Vaillant air to water heat pump but as you all know this kind of heat pump is slow to respond with the low flow temperatures  The Daikin is impressively fast to heat or cool and seems to be very efficient in energy use, though it has so far cost little as I have solar panels.  I think if I was starting from scratch I would go for an air-to-air heat pumps especially now with more frequent heat waves.  Air to air cannot heat domestic water but is you have a smart tariff, such as Octopus Go, or Intelligent Octopus GO that I have, it's economical to heat water overnight with an immersion heater.
