@trebor12345 I think @toodles has explained, by exaggerating the cost differential it forces it to behave exactly as you wish. It shouldn’t be necessary to do so, but it is.

There is a bit of trial and error involved. For example if you want to make it charge from grid at a particular time, make the cost of import near zero or if you want to force discharge make the export price 1 million.
it sounds mad, but it works.

( sorry to complicate matters but the other, more elegant way to do it is to use a supervisory app, I used to use one called Netzero. It used to be free, but they started charging for it. So being a tight wad I stopped using it. But that gives you much better control than the Tesla app. But you need to tie it to the PW for it to work and need the QR code from inside the battery enclosure, if I remember correctly.)

@trebor12345 @papahuhu For a simple schedule required for the likes of Go, things shouldn’t need too much fiddling about though. You have a period of 5 (or is it 5.5 hours?) so you tell Tesla app that between x and y hours, energy is cheapest (7pence or whatever) at all other times it is expensive (35pence or whatever) You can set those times and Powerwall should follow your schedule. If you have to ‘top-up’ outside of the EV hours, you will just have to accept the higher cost. Regards, Toodles.

I have now found out how to get to the settings for this.  I have attached what I have set up.  Does it look right for my simple tariff (0:30 to 5:30 cheap rate, all other times expensive, solar export 12p).

@toodles i guess it all depends upon exactly what you want it to do. I don’t have an EV, but from what I understand the additional benefit of Netzero for octopus Go is that it can also prevent the car from charging from the battery. But I’ve never done it myself, so aren't an authority on the matter.

I’m 6 weeks into a “experiment” using solely the AI for flux and using the actual tariff data. It really doesn’t work optimally, I estimate it’s costing me a 10% loss vs best case operation. I thought by being patient and giving it more time to “learn” it might perform better, it doesn’t make any difference.

@trebor12345 Yes, but no! You want to exaggerate the differential in price.
Try it if you like, but my guess is it won’t do what you want it to. Try it this evening, if it doesn’t fully work get back to us for some suggested changes (it’s not a precise science as none of us understand the actual algorithm it uses)

@trebor12345 Are you paying 9 pence for the ‘EV hours’? At least you have a differential there but as suggested earlier, you can persuade the Powerwall to do your bidding to ensure it responds favourably; you might set the off peak to be perhaps 2 pence buy price and the peak buy price £1.00 which will reduce any shadow of doubt when you do and don’t want to use the grid. Rewards (I hope!) Toodles.

@toodles I was tempted to buy some space X shares on Friday, it’s lost so much value. But there’s so much shorting that it could easily drop another 40% before the bounce. If I miss it I miss it. Worrying to see such wild swings, maybe trouble ahead.

I have no EV, but the 9p is for cheap overnight rate.

How does the Tesla app respond to these settings verses the settings that are used by Octopus? Is it just to "fig" the software.  A bit beyond my comprehension at the moment.
