Looks like the gas pipe replacement in our road will take longer....
The team contracted to Cadent have been dismissed over the weekend for multiple breaches of health and safety regulations.
No news yet on when anyone will be taking over.

Inspires confidence in the infrastructure for moving explosive material, doesn't it? I hope Cadent or whoever takes over from the contractor reviews what's been installed so far.
I think I've posted this before, but this seems too good an opportunity to miss.
A skydiver jumps out of the aeroplane and, after enjoying a spectacular freefall, pulls the rip cord to deploy his canopy. Nothing happens. Calmly, the skydiver pulls the ripcord for the emergency parachute. Still nothing happens. Now getting somewhat concerned, he notices someone rapidly coming up towards him in the opposite direction. In desperation, he calls out as the two get close.
"Hey, do you know anything about parachutes?"
The reply comes almost immediately.
"No, mate. What about you? Know anything about gas cookers?"

Yes, Cadent have just come and been reviewing the "carnage" today and spoken to everyone in the close and apologised. So they know what needs doing as well as tidying up the general mess. A new team will be assigned. Luckily none of the holes and trenches have been filled anywhere near us. They said it was the worse they had ever seen.
The dodgy team have had their registration suspended and Cadent have distributed their details to other network operators. They lied to Cadent about cutting the electric, even though it was caught on security cameras, including carrying on digging when my partner spoke to them.
I can't fault the response from UK Power or Cadent in terms of acting and keeping us updated, although obviously it should never have happened.

This is very positive and all too easy to ignore. I've said a number of times before in various situations that judging a company on what they get right is never as telling as looking at how they act when something goes wrong. After all, we live in an imperfect world.

Yes, the work starts again on Tuesday morning with a known experienced team this time. I just met the supervisor.
