I intend to replace the Plex pipework in the area of my volumiser tank.

I now realise that the contractor who changed it from buffer to return line volumiser, used too many Plex elbows with the result that potential flow was significantly limited.

I will take the opportunity of putting the tank in the flow, but have 2 options for piping as the diagram.

Volumiser Pipework Alternatives

Option 1 gives diagonal flow across the tank but will require more elbows/ bends.

Option 2 is the easiest and minimises elbows/ bends, but has inlet and outlet on the same side of the tank.

I would welcome views on which is the better option.

Without a detailed analysis of the hydrodynamics I would say it's impossible to say but unlikely to make a great deal of difference.  I can't see much chance that the tank somehow divides itself into two on a vertical plane in 1 so I would expect that most of the eater will be engaged.  It's gut feel I admit with a tiny bit of handwaving science.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
