@old_scientist These savings sessions used to be notified to me (SSEN area) but they stopped last year and despite emailed complaints, I have not received any notifications since then. Is it me or only selected areas seeing such sessions these days? I am on Outgoing Fixed still. Toodles.

Thanks @old_scientist That's good to know, as it wasn't obvious from their emails. I didn't bother joining in the savings sessions as we don't touch the grid during peak hours, so thought what's the point. If they pay more for export, I would happily dump more to the grid, as our batteries don't fall below 90% in the summer months. Given the orientation of our PV array, we are exporting like 3.5 kWh per hour these days from 1 pm to 7 pm, so wouldn't hurt to take from the batteries too.

they will also pay if you export more than you normally export.

Yes, they take your average as a baseline, and then pay you for the difference.

For example, last night's session was 7:30-8:30 pm, and my average export over the last 10 days was 0.5kWh for that 1h window, so if I exported 5.5kWh they would award me points for 5.5 - 0.5 = 5kWh.

If all you normally do is export excess solar, obviously your baseline average should be pretty low from 6pm onwards, so exporting battery during this time should be beneficial. They exclude previous savings session days when calculating your baseline average so works really well for anyone on regular SEG outgoing who normally just export excess solar.

Samsung 12kW gen6 ASHP with 50L volumiser and all new large radiators. 7.2kWp solar (south facing), Tesla PW3 (13.5kW)
Solar generation completely offsets ASHP usage annually. We no longer burn ~1600L of kerosene annually.

Yes, everyone has a bespoke situation, but that is why there should be periodic “learning” cycles. Tesla does say to give it 20 days, so for the sake of my curiosity I will  sit on my hands, as at the moment I’m not seeing any evidence of any intelligence.

Fair enough, as long as it's still making you more that regular outgoing SEG would have done. I don't think I'd have your patience though, as in 20 days the best of summer may be over!

Just as a complete aside....

In Home Assistant (for those of you who are interested in the tinkering), I have the IMAP integration running so it can read the mailbox I use for communicating with Octopus. That means that an email notification of a new saving session triggers an automation to opt us in. I then have another automation that is triggered at around the time of the actual session (in fact starting 10 minutes before) which does all the stuff I want to do; turn the heat pump off, stop the car charging if it's using grid leccy etc. There is also, of course, another automation that, 10 minutes after the session, turns stuff back on again as necessary.

This is not meant to sound like a smug git moment, but I do want to highlight how much the HA automating can help. We literally do nothing for the saving sessions since it's all taken care of.

Not sure @toodles. You do need to sign up for Savings Sessions, and then Opt in for each session from the received emails.

Try this link and see if it takes you to your Octopus account with the option to opt in to tonight’s session:

https://octo.ps/4aILuXB

If it does, then you are obviously still signed up but not receiving the emails. If not, then maybe you need to sign up for Savings Sessions again. But at least you should know which of the two is the issue and can give Octopus a call

@toodles we get them in the NW, seems like every few days. We had two for today. we don’t import any power so I’ve not bothered signing up for them.
when I was on IOF they would pay be a flat fee of £2.50 a session, regardless of output, must have made at least £50 last year for doing nothing at all.

@bontwoody I can’t believe that Charge Pack compatibility with Powerwall 2 will be far off as Octopus have been using Powerwalls with their IOF in the past anyway. I believe this was based on Tesla’s own scheme in the first place anyway (but I could be misunderconstumbling this of course!). Regards, Toodles.

Yes, I was a little slow to the party too. You need to sign up for Savings Sessions first, and then opt in to each session when the email comes around in the afternoon.

You can normally work out if there's likely to be a Savings Session that evening by keeping an eye on the Agile prices. If they are expensive, then likely to ve a savings Session, and the more expensive they are, the greater to rewards.

The give you Octoplus points, and 8pts = 1p, so 108 Octoplus points per kWh for tonight’s session is 108/8=13.5p per kWh (in addition to your standard export rate)

@old_scientist Thank you for the link, I have opted in and that confirmed that I am set up to partake; I have not received the notification promise so will ring 8 legs tomorrow. I note on that page that I didn’t partake in sessions yesterday or the day before - had they notified me, I might have done so!!! Rewards, Toodles.

Wow - seriously impressed. I think you've earned the right to be as smug as you like 👍
