September Solar Results
Hi Batalto,
If you google Midea Training Video No. 10 it shows how to access all the data you may need under Operating Parameters. It looks quite comprehensive so you should be able to gather a great deal of useful information.
@derek-m makes sense - Which paremeters would I need? Also I'd probably have to collect them manually, which is a hassle. At the moment everything is being logged from the solar inverter
Hi Batalto,
Unfortunately domestic systems don't yet have the capabilities of industrial systems, which would log all the relevant parameters and allow trends to be built to investigate and optimise plant operation.
Personally I would log the Ambient Air Temperature, the Water Flow and Return Temperatures, possibly flow rates. I am not certain from the video all the the parameters that are available, you could start recording all the temperatures and flows on an hourly basis and then decide which may be relevant. If you wish you can send me the data and I will help you decide.
I know it is a pain on the neck having to do it manually, but you should not have to do it forever, once your system has been optimised it may only need a check once per year.
The objective is to confirm that the weather compensation is indeed optimising the efficiency of your system.
You may have to ask your wife to do the night shift!!!!
@editor Hi Mars,
I was surprised to see that you have been drawing an average 18.7 kWh of energy from the grid during September. It would probably be beneficial to analyse which appliances are utilising this energy.
I also note that you exported 204 kWh (38%) of the solar power generated. Have you considered using an electric convection heater or two to use the excess solar power to heat parts of your home during the day. Electric storage heaters would be even better, since they could be used to provide heat during the night and hence reduce the load on your ASHP when it is operating at its most inefficient. A further way to help reduce energy consumption, would be to raise the temperature in your home during the day, when your heat pump could be powered by solar energy, which in turn would reduce the load on your heat pump overnight.
For the past several months the vast majority of heating in our home has been provided by our heat pump, which has been powered by our solar PV system. Raising the indoor temperature to between 23C and 24C during the day, which kept our home warm overnight. It is only the past couple of days when I have left the heat pump running overnight.
I too have just averaged 18kWh per day through September - the best September in the 4 years I have been tracking consumption. That's total household usage (I don't yet have a separate meter for the ASHP). I only have an ASHP, no solar PV or storage batteries. Of that, typically 5kWh was overnight. When I get a "good " figure I feel quite pleased with myself until I learn that others here are using far less (or even switching their pump off for the summer).
I'm still waiting for my electrician to install a meter to separately monitor the ASHP power usage. Then I'll discover what our base load is for everything except the ASHP. After last October's experience of the main PCB blowing and then getting the set up of the pump checked following the hideously high consumption in January, I think I've done everything to optimise the performance of the pump.

Grant Aerona HPID10 10kWh ASHP
Here are the figures for September, with a daily breakdown in the attached spreadsheet for anyone who is interested.
Diverted :- 136.4 kWh
Exported :- 22.2 kWh
Generated :- 266.2 kWh
Imported :- 88.2 kWh
House :- 293 kWh
The diverted power was used for hot water production and also home heating with an electric convection heater.
The house figure includes power used by the ASHP.
