Posted by: @toodles@majordennisbloodnok Err… sorry Major? Your service agent cleans your heat pump casing for you?????!!!😳
Yup.
Not only, of course; plenty of other bits too. I have mentioned them in positive terms plenty of times before on the forum, so that's just another minor hint at why.
105 m2 bungalow in South East England
Mitsubishi Ecodan 8.5 kW air source heat pump
18 x 360W solar panels
1 x 6 kW GroWatt battery and SPH5000 inverter
1 x Myenergi Zappi
1 x VW ID3
Raised beds for home-grown veg and chickens for eggs
"Semper in excretia; sumus solum profundum variat"
@majordennisbloodnok Daikin, take note! (In fact, I have switched my allegiance for my next service) but, I did think a reputable manufacturer would have been reliable! Toodles.
Toodles, heats his home with cold draughts and cooks food with magnets.
Does anyone else think that the "Pro" is the previous generation Plus in black? https://www.vaillant-group.com/news-stories/vaillant-at-the-ish-2025.html
@marcexec I did look into this black version for my new heat pump. There is a german spec, reading between the lines I felt it's much the same as the current machine (but I am no expert). Specification from page 47.
2024 build bungalow, Southern England, 179 m2, 14w/m2
Underfloor heating, fully open
Vaillant aroTHERM plus 3.5kW
50 litre volumiser
3.6KW solar panels
Thanks for this.
@marcexec I scrolled through and what sticks out immediately is the extent to which they have shrunk the R290 protective zone (pages 13 on). I think its also about 3dB quieter. So they are different.
They advertised in early blurb new control electronics reducing the number of separate control boxes, I cant immediately tell if that has been realised.
4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
So it will actually be available in June, which fits with what Vaillant originally told me last year.
Heat Geek already has the Pro on offer now:
- even more quiet than the old ("current") Plus
- packs more power per size (L-shaped evaporator), but less to select from
- has a mode where it keeps the fan idling if there were any R290 leaks to reduce clearance requirements (the German new Plus has that, too)
- Plus in June confirmed as well

I wonder whether that lower noise could make a difference where the ODU is installed in a gap between two dwellings?
I had a go at using the MCS calculator for the Vaillant plus 7kW VWL 75/6, assuming it will be hanging away from the ground (I assumed the barrier would be the wall of the neighbour; is this how it should be filled in?)
8kW Solis S6-EH1P8K-L-PLUS hybrid inverter; G99: 8kw export; 16kWh Seplos Fogstar battery; Ohme Home Pro EV charger; 100Amp head, HA lab on mini PC
Firstly check you are using sound power not sound pressure. Some manufacturers arent entirely clear and both are measured in dB(A). From memory the sound power of the current Vaillant 7kW is 55dB(A) or there abouts (I forget exactly).
Assessment position is the most affected aperture (window/door) on an adjacent property (if there are multiple you must do it for all). Normally the nearest but not always. You can ignore kitchens (solely used for cooking), utility rooms, stairwells, halls, bathrooms, only 'living' rooms and bedrooms count. You dont have to calculate the effect on your own property!
Reflective surfaces are any hard surfaces within 1m. So the minimum possible is 1, unless its cantilevered >1m out from a wall and > 1m from ground.
A barrier is one between the ODU and the assessment point, not one at the assessment point.
What else is unclear, full and authoritative description as referred to in planning legislation here

Fantastic. This is all I needed.
Afew planning applications from the neighbour confirmed no opening windows on living spaces facing us. So the only thing restricting siting of an R290 would be the exclusion zones. But even before the Vaillant anthracite arotherm, it will be straightforward to site the ODU for a zero disrupt next to the old combi boiler.
I do not need to wait for any strategy for refitting! Lucky to live in a borough that declared a climate emergency and is supporting renewables.

Based on the youtube overviews etc it is clear that it is being redesigned. The slightly higher noise during defrost gone, the exclusion zones essentially eliminated, some improvements related to wiring/comms (not sure if it reduces labour of installs) and controls. And this allows sensor info to be better used - so perhaps a slight improvement on efficiency, etc.
I heard it is £500 cheaper but Vaillant do not include 7 years warranty, just 2.
And it´s anthracite, not black. 😀
