[Solved] Is my Samsung gen6 outside air temp sensor missing a sheath/sleeve?
Good afternoon
Been having some niggles with cycling and unnecessary defrosts on a newish install. Samsung Gen 6 R32 16kW 1P mono, not getting anywhere fast with installer. Image below is my outside air temp sensor which I would have thought would had a metal sleeve/ sheath covering a PT100 type RTD. What I find on mine is pliable black plastic tube surrounding some type of thinnish wire upto the point where the white cable tie sits, but for the final 2 inches it’s a completely empty plastic tube. I would have expected to see a metal sleeve/sheath sticking out the end. What’s in the picture is wrong, isn’t it? Thanks
Looks very ‘normal’ to me, not that I have seen many probes ‘in the flesh’ so to speak. Those I have seen and photos of others look very much like this one does. I think the ‘empty’ tubing is for protection only, the lead connecting it to the pumps PCB is usually retained as yours is by a clip and the probe may be a cm or two from the rear face of the pump. It looks crude I know but it is quite common that they are mounted in this way. Regards, Toodles.

@papahuhu The sensor (set back in the tube is surrounded by plastic which protects it but the ambient temperature around it is still the ambient temperature as the tubing will have minimal insulating qualities (and is of course a constant; should a breeze blow over the tube, it will still cool it to the ‘feels like’ temperature within seconds) Regards, Toodles.

@papahuhu I've never seen one without an "element" or ferrule like you've said protruding from the sheath, but not an expert to comment specifically on this. I was sent several of these last year by a manufacturer and they all look different, but there's usually a piece of metal that is showing.
And this is what ours looks like.
I'd ask Samsung, but they're useless at replying. Will ask some installers that I think install Samsungs to get their opinion.

Much appreciated. I can’t ask my installer, we are in RECC dispute at the moment and this seemingly atypical appearance may (or may not) be relevant. The Samsung manual is as useless as a chocolate teapot and the Samsung tech support advice is to ask your installer!
@editor Just shows that different manufacturers use different designs and arrangements, yours @editor looks to be a very substantial ‘business-like’ fitting! Our Daikin has a piece of transparent tubing ~6 mm. in diameter with the sensor set back inside it. @papahuhu, don’t rely on my word, they obviously vary in design and it looks as though it would bear investigation if only for reassurance! Regards, Toodles.

This link may bring some enlightenment!

@toodles Thanks Toodles, yes I’d been through that, there’s not a single image or part number of the bit I’m looking for.
What makes me a bit more concerned is that the installer handed me four or five temp probes when they had finished the install that obviously had come together with the unit, they said they “weren’t needed” as their spurs clicked into the distance.
