@andrewj, it was some housekeeping where some subscriptions were removed. There’s a new subscribe button above…

@agentgeorge no idea if they’ve made changes, but I got 5.16 which is amazing.  Mind you OAT was over 12c whilst hot water and heating was on; it’s been off since 8am.  I expect it’s more to do with that.

I've had a few hours with hush mode now, seems to have helped my noise issue considerably. The fan control seems smarter, compressor noise is also different.

It caps output at 8.4kW heat so no issues there.

Performance seems better as well.

I take it “a few hours” is just a figure of speech and you’ve had it turned on for some time?  Reports seem to be positive but it’s such an odd time of year, heating-wise, that I’m not sure it’s really possible to draw conclusions??  My main thought was if it is so good why isn’t it default behaviour - indeed, why isn’t it just baked into the firmware rather than being a switchable option?  As with everything Octopus, there’s such a lack of actual technical info that it’s impossible to tell what’s what!  I sound cynical but there seems to be so much to get right that throwing some more options into the mix without proper info just makes things more difficult: why would you turn it on; what impact will it have; why would you turn it off; etc?  I haven’t found any explanation.

@andrewj

I have no heating load right now so haven't actually run it in hush mode that long.

Loads of other makes have a selectable silent / quiet / eco / hush mode. It's just a similar thing really.

It just happens to help with my particular issue as well.

@swwils I guess the true test will be November/December when it cranks up to run full speed.

To be fair to Octopus, TJ is quoted as advising that hush mode is not appropriate to peak demand season. 😀

To be fair to Octopus customers, it would be better if we could get detailed information from a more official channel and less cryptic source than a Social Media manager on Facebook.  I appreciate that he helps resolve service problems but it’s frustrating that we can’t get more info from technical sources - it would help if there was consistency of advice as well.
