Damon Blakemore from Blakemore Plumbing Heating Renewables provides a walkthrough of a 6kW Viessmann Vitocal 150-A heat pump installation, and covers various aspects of the installation. There's a bit of wind at the beginning, but it's a semi-detached property.

I was pretty sure he says that there's an isolation for the buffer. @damon, is there a buffer tank?

This video is not sponsored by Evian 😀

Sorry about the wind and the Evian!

There is a buffer yes but it's got a unique feature. Its a defrost buffer not a buffer we would use for hydraulic separation.

When the Heatpump knows a defrost is coming it moves the 3/4 way valve and loads the 16l buffer to 65ºC, it then uses this water to defrost the buffer, thew whole process tales around 7/8 minutes and removes no heat from the house like normal direct system would. it also does defrosts at a much lower rate of operation compared to a Vaillant for example, where as there `Vaillant was once every 40 mins or so the Viessmann unit was once every 2 hours.

Next time im in front of one ill do a video on the buffer to show what it dsoesn and how it operates, its a really good designed bit of kit.

@damon no problem about the wind… it’s a nightmare filming outside. Thanks for the explanation about the buffer - not sure if I’ve heard about a defrost buffer before. Sounds interesting.
