@jeff Such documents are far too wordy for my ‘daily reading allowance’ due to sight problems so please forgive me if I haven’t read far enough into this proposal.

I note that the proposers feel that the 5,000 plus trainees presently learning to be installers will fulfil the requirement - I don’t think such a target is anywhere near high enough! (Laudible though it may well be, that number has to encompass retiring engineers as well as cope with a vast increase in demand for the new installs anticipated.)

I also note that my own system with a separate DHW heating source (Solar and / or Grid) is strictly speaking, not permissible  - though I did receive the £5000 grant.

It says:

However, whilst current scheme regulations allow supplementary electric heaters to be retained when incorporated within the hydronic system, in most instances the property cannot have a separate heating system for hot water or space heating. For example, if a heat pump is installed to provide space heat only while a separate LCH appliance provides hot water, the installation is ineligible as the heat pump is not providing both heat and hot water.”

In my opinion this proposed amendment to allow such systems is very welcome! Regards, Toodles.

Hi all,

I agree, the consultation documents are always too long and wordy. However, if anyone wants to share their views on this as part of a wider organisational response then the IET is seeking contributions to its response. I don't think you have to be a member: https://engx.theiet.org/f/wiring-and-regulations/31450/call-for-evidence-boiler-upgrade-scheme-and-certification-requirements-for-clean-heat-schemes-consultation

Cheers 🙂
