Govt petition for review of EPC calculations to assist ASHP/GSHP
Does anyone know if a petition has been raised on the govt sire for this? If sh where is it? If not is anyone interested in assisting I need 5 people and email addresses to start one. It is important that if the Govt want to increase the number of heat pumps installed then they need to ensure that the british regs are adjusted to allow for the unique way that heat pumps work, at present i am loosing points and just sitting below a c rating because I don't want TRVs on my system and simply to run it on weather compensation big black mark on my EPC!!
i’ll join you.
Heat pumps aren’t special, they are just another heat source for a heating system
boiler manufacturers use the same compensation controller on boilers as heat pumps or both

Hi Alec,
I'm afraid that I have to disagree. Because ASHP's in particular obtain 2/3 or more of their energy source from the outside air, their efficiency is severely affected when the outside air temperature is low. Basically the calorific value of the energy source is reduced at precisely the time when they need to work harder. It is therefore much more important for a heat pump to be correctly configured than any other boiler type.
@derek-m that doesn’t change the control strategy to put a heating system in a stable state (room temp)
The heat pump performance will be set and unalterable to accommodate the change in climatic conditions. All you can change is effectively a demanded temperature from the controller.
The system controls need to be adjusted to accommodate the building and other variables such as embitter type. These variables don’t change according to heat source.
Condensing boilers increase efficiency with lower flow temperatures, but the heating system demands the same temperature what ever the heat generator there are even electric resistant heating boilers which vary flow temperature with no efficiency gain, but because the building is held at a fixed temperature there is a saving in electricity usage, albeit probably not much
