@papahuhu Of course, in the way of such things, there are no analogue adjustments, just a number so one has to select 3 or 4 or 5… I did adjust down by 2 but find that the temperature rose to -16.7 - I am now one higher again with a temperature of -18 at present but feel this will decrease (increase, but lets not be negative about it) to ~-18.8 but this is still less energy hungry than before I started adjustments I hope. Having looked at yesterday’s (Saturday 15th Aug.) consumption, I can now see a little more detail (I think!) of what is using power at various times. The large spike in the late morning is when the Sunamp Thermino DHW system kicks in and consumes 2.5  kWh. after the Powerwall has charged, the ripples between approx 12:00 and 13:00 are use of the air fryer and induction hob and the increase in the evening is the 19:15 - 22:15 heated towel rail use; this is running at approx. 300 Watts. The ripples in the morning are charging the Tesla system and the rest is down to the base load I think including the dishwasher running. The total of 14.7 kWh is about average for a day now.

@toodles I invested on Miele a pair of frodge frozor when my samsung American style FeFz started clanking; compressor was on way out. My power profile plummeted. Even in an over warm kitchen they are barely on the power meter, so quiet you have to check theyre on. Ive checked their temperatures and they are rigidly maintaining fridge 3C, Freezer -18C

Dishwasher goes on during a cheap Cosy power cycle, cooking is from the battery. AC has been off today and doors open for a change. Battery still at 80%, dog waiting patiently for her evening walk, cats chilling in the planted borders.

Not sure if the free hour of electricity will run every weekend. But, I added extra charge on the car, some extra hot water, baking etc done. If like Octopus say it will run until November, then they have to offer at least two saving sessions each week. Let's see whether this works out as expected. If it does, that's about free 100 miles each month.

@chandykris Is this the deal that if (like me), you run on purely solar home brew during the summer, you cannot take advantage as it is impossible to use less from the grid at that time?😉 Regards, Toodles.

@toodles Yes, kind of. If we hadn't plugged in the EV, we would have just used the solar we generate.

Looks like not much change in electricity prices in the current price cap announcement. Assuming Octopus have already done their forecast prior to Ofgem price cap announcement, looks like Go and Cosy aren't changing at all. Still Go is the cheapest for the year overall for me, with Cosy just 2 pence per kWh cheaper than Go during Dec, Jan and Feb. That's about £60 in those months but for the rest of the year we should save more than £150 staying on Go. So, I am going to stick to Go for a while until probably next summer when I will look to Flux if rates are better.

Yes, looks like very slight increases in the unit rate (presumably the headline 4% increases are offset by the removal of VAT), and a reduction to the SC roughly equivalent to the removal of VAT.

I'm a very happy heat pump owner given what our old oil boiler would have been costing (currently 94p/L which equates to around 10.5p per kWh for an 85% efficient oil boiler). With a SCOP of 4, that's equivalent of paying 42.35p/kWh for your electricity, so even the SVR is significantly cheaper and if you opt for a tariff like Cosy, it's ~30% (~70% cheaper) of the cost of running our old oil boiler that the heat pump replaced.

 


Samsung 12kW gen6 ASHP with 50L volumiser and large radiators. 7.2kWp solar (south facing), Tesla PW3 (13.5kW). Net Zero

Have you ran the numbers as to which cosy tariff for the winter ie variable or fixed? Last year they offered 2 fixed, one slightly more discounted but it had a £25 exit, I went for that but ended up having to pay the fee to be released from it in the spring.

I’m back over the £1k credit on the account so that should see me through the winter even if the prices go up another 10% in Jan. This year I’m thinking variable. It’s currently about 2 p cheaper than the fixed.

I've not given it much/any thought. I did look at the prices, and if I were switching back to Cosy now I'd stay on the variable. Not worth signing on for a 12 month fix with exit fee as I'll probably only need Cosy for 2-3 months before Flux is better again, plus things are further complicated as we are currently looking at EVs which would change our use profile and Intelligent Go could also be in the mix.

@old_scientist Yes, an EV changes everything drastically, unless you are just going to do a few hundred miles a year. 
I intentionally didn’t get one, to make it work financially I’d either have to get a vehicle to house model or I’d need to invest in an additional 2 PW expansion packs and switch to IOG.

Not even sure I’ve got enough spare capacity on the house fuse for a fast charger, the heat pump is on a dedicated 32A circuit and the expansion packs would need more capacity to get them to mains charge at 8kW.
