Nothing sinister, @plasfron. It's just that we've had a few discussions around what Havenwise does over and above manufacturer's boxes of tricks and found the level of intelligence shown by their systems to be significantly higher. Whether that translates into significant savings is, of course, another matter and often specific to each customer's situation, but what you heard suggested didn't seem to ring quite true with this forum.

Hi, I've always found Henri to be super helpful. From a sales point of view, if I was on a fixed price tariff, what would havenwise do that auto adapt didn't?

@plasfron can you supply links to the "Online Heat Pump discussion groups" you refer to, please?

Yes, @plasfron; Henri's a good guy to talk to. I've had several conversations with him in the past and he's been very open and helpful.

But can you please provide a link to those discussions? I would like to see the discussions you speak of.

@plasfron On your question on the setup process. It's pretty straightforward. You download the Havenwise app and just follow the steps in the app to complete the setup. Should be quick and self-explanatory. Part of the process is indeed linking Melcloud to Havenwise.

On the broader question about how Havenwise is different from Mitsubishi's Auto Adapt (AA) / Melcloud / FTC (the Mitsubishi controller) / Home assistant, see below a (lengthy) answer.
Depending on your situation, some of these points might be more or less relevant of course! Only you can be the judge of that.
1. It's easier to use. Big factor for a lot of our users.
2. If you want Havenwise to take into account your tariff, it will actually calculate how much it should make use of the cheap periods. There is a balance between making use of cheap electricity, efficiency, and comfort. Sometimes it makes sense to "pre-heat" the home by 0.2C, sometimes by 0.5C, sometimes by 0.7C, etc. Havenwise will continuously calculate this. The only thing AA does is reacting to your setpoint versus measured room temperature. Who knows whether you should set it 0.5C, 1C, or 2C above your normal temperature for optimal results? And we know that the optimal scenario actually changes day by day.
3. If you change your tariff, you need to rethink and change your schedules with AA. Not with Havenwise.
4. If you don't want Havenwise to take into account your tariff, Havenwise will automatically calculate the optimal setbacks, for instance overnight or during the day when nobody is home.
5. My understanding is that AA doesn't change the flow temperatures very much. So the benefit with tariffs might be limited.
6. I've seen reports that AA "forgets" what it learns in some circumstances.
7. I've seen setups where AA just doesn't work. It seems to particularly struggle with underfloor heating.
8. AA only works when you have the FTC or a wireless Mitsi stat in a suitable location picking up a representative temperature. Not a requirement for Havenwise and we have a workaround for those situations.
9. Havenwise also optimises the hot water. We have a blog post on this here: https://www.havenwise.co.uk/news/customer-case-study-perry
10. In our app, we report COP and actual cost (in £). More data is planned.
11. We pride ourselves on excellent customer support.
12. We continuously improve our app and the algorithms. So the product stays modern, and only gets better with time. I believe Melcloud hasn't received a real update in at least 6-7 years. I am aware they have a new "Melcloud Home" coming but our tests show it's not much different from the existing Melcloud app.
Hope this answers some questions!

@hcas Hi, I have been asked to get an old 14kW Ecodan installation working efficiently. Its in a care home and apart from being oversized it seems to be installed reasonably well with good insulation and no buffer I can see, so the main issue would be to fine tune the WC curve. I would prefer if this could be done without involving the care home staff.
Will havenwise work with this heatpump, and what do I need to do to progress?
Thanks Mark

@bontwoody If you can get it connected to Melcloud, it should work with Havenwise. You would need the Mitsubishi MELCloud Wi-Fi Interface if that is not in place yet.
Might be worth double checking with Mitsubishi to see if it can be connected to Melcloud, given the age of the unit.
