Electricity price predictions
Interesting meeting. Attempting to at least partially answer the question that was ducked right at the beginning - how long can Dunkelflaute last?
Here is an example from
https://www.energydashboard.co.uk/historical
Select 2nd Nov 2024 as the start date and 7 day view.
This is a complete week of Dunkelflaute at a time of year when temperatures are low. It continued from 2nd to 10th Nov. Gas plus solar provided less than 12% of the generation capacity needed during those first 7 days. That's a simple recent example of the scale of the task involved in getting gas completely off the electricity grid.
2777 GWh came from gas during that 7 day period alongside 608 GWh from wind, 42 GWh from solar, 35 GWh from pumped storage, and 51 GWh from hydro. It's a big ask (understatement) to fill a 2777 GWh gap using long term storage, as of Oct 2026 total UK battery storage capacity was around 14 GWh.
sounds like a term that Heidegger would use to describe the human condition, rather than a meteorological state.
