Impressive!

Interesting use of ChatGPT too - wouldn't have thought it would have this sort of specialist technical knowledge.

You'd be surprised. I've had some very detailed conversations with ChatGPT about efficiency vs compressor speed of positive displacement compressors used in heat pumps (i.e, how does compressor speed affect efficiency as a heat pump modulates it's output)

Reading that back, I think I probably need to get out more 🤣

I too use AI when researching online.

It's able to correct my mistakes, but particularly poor at presenting information for which I don't yet understand the concept.

For example, yesterday I needed the check the order in which specific directives were issued by Ofgem. I started searching for a Decision Notice for which I thought I knew the shortform name "LM04+". The AI immediately realised I had meant TM04+ and asked if I wished to proceed in researching that.

That's fine.

However AI wouldn't try to correct me if I was researching the reasons why we need to fund substantial upgrades to the electricity grid. There's a massive trove of online articles from authoritative organisations which state numerous different models, each showing increased growth of the grid up to 2050. AI simply believes that is 'evidence', based on the corpus of documentation.

If a human had repeated those grid upgrade paths to me, then I would intervene to stop them.

The future paths conflict with the Directory of UK Energy Statistics 2025 (DUKES) which was published in July'26.
That contains several graphs showing a steady decrease in electricity demand.

and the same is true for electricity generation:

I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't invest in upgrading the grid. But unless I first appreciate why the demand decreases occur, then I'm not able to assess what levels of upgrade will be required, where and why.

An important role of this forum is to present the concepts which underpin how we generate and deploy energy.

That's more important that simply asserting an approach as being "the correct method".

Once we grasp the concept we can then turn to AI to explore the facts.

... and I've just wandered off-topic.

If anyone wants to pursue this further, then I'll get @editor to move it to a more suitable topic where others can find it in future.
