[Sticky] Renewables & Heat Pumps in the News
Posted by: @etchedpixels@majordennisbloodnok Unfortunately there's a rather more sinister game being played under the surface. Mandating a UK specific special magic set of software allows vendors to segment off the UK and massively up prices versus the rest of the world because there's no import competition.
That's very different to "for some reason my dishwasher has a wifi app"
A game indeed.
What you say is true, but it's also true that so far manufacturers have been doing their level best to remain proprietary. If we want inverters, batteries, electric cars, heat pumps and so on acting as one cohesive whole we need some independent standards. That doesn't mean creating as you put it a "magical set of software" but simply putting pressure on all kit having some minimum level of playing nice with the outside world as a standard. How that all plays out in practice will be interesting to see.
