NIBE 1140 - what is mean time before failure? Installed 2009 and now struggling to heat hot water
We have had a lot of problems in the last year, and it has finally stopped heating the water beyond about 28C, despite trying it on hot water only.
We are talking to NIBE about replacing it, but there is since a lead time with installers in SE Scotland. At the moment we have no way of heating water.
Sorry to hear that @aliram.
While you’re waiting on NIBE and an installer, the simplest stopgap is going down the immersion route. If your cylinder has an immersion boss, an electrician can have one fitted relatively quickly and inexpensively. Worth checking the cylinder first though, as some unvented cylinders have the boss blanked off rather than fitted with an element.

@editor thank you - our tank is of course huge - we have 2.5km of slinkies (I think) how can I tell there is a blanked off boss
is it one of those at the bottom ? Sorry I edited the pic but it went dark
I can't see one there @aliram, but I'm hoping that @ashp-bobba and @aventus-eco can have a quick look for the professional perspective!

Hard to tell but I think I have placed the arrow on what you are looking for?

@ashp-bobba hi there everyone sorry to take so long to respond - you have all been so helpful.
we now have 2 immersions fitted to the hot water tanks - which actually is NiBE branded.
very very grateful to this forum for the heads up about possibility of immersion fitting.
Sadly we also have rodent damage to the hot water system but the immersion heaters have allowed us to isolate the leak and at least feed 1 shower.
good news all round.
I am most grateful. Thankyou everyone who replied .
