Hi I'm Jenki, I live in West Wales in a 60's Bungalow with oil central heating which I hope to replace in the next 2 years or so; I'm hoping to gain a better insight into ASHP and the pitfalls of installing in a older property.

A heat pump is suitable for any property. However, the heating system and control strategy must be designed correctly if it's going to work correctly. Most of the mistakes take place because the installer does not understand the technology.

Your starting point, if you have not already done so, should be to improve the energy efficiency of your bungalow as much as possible.

How much oil do you currently use per annum to heat the bungalow and does that give a comfortable temperature?

Thank you for the replies I have 2 immediate aims replacement of the current Rads and pipework (the installation is about 50 years old) and insulation improvement especially the north facing wall which has a lot in common with an Ice block.

Bungalow already has CWI and UPVC double glazing.

Loft insulation is adequate but the installation (Grant aided) is poor and needs to be reinstalled.
