The positive reviews keep coming in for Britain's Heat Pump Shitshow, and the latest comes from one of the biggest names in heat pumps, Graham Hendra:

Masterpiece *****

Mars has written a new book about the heating industry. It’s brilliant. You will learn more about heating and heat pumps from the 95 pages of this book than you will from any training course or MCS assessment.

It’s not, as I first thought, a slagging-off of heating or heat pumps. It’s written like a novel about two households that find themselves needing new heating systems and consequently come into contact with the heating “profession”. You are in this book, so am I; everyone is. It highlights what homeowners, installers, manufacturers and the government do, where they do it well and where they do it badly.

I recommend that you buy this, take two hours out of your day and read it. It is only so laugh-out-loud funny because it’s true... all of it. It’s the kick up the arse we all need.

If you work with heat pumps, are a heat pump denier or are heat pump curious, this book is for you. I recommend that you DON’T buy any heating system, fossil fuel or renewable, without reading this. It will prepare you for the journey.

Years ago, there was a TV programme called White Gold. It was about the double-glazing industry in the 1980s, and it’s a brilliant and realistic portrayal of that industry at the time. This book is the White Gold of the UK heating industry today.

Thank you, Mars, for writing this. I absolutely loved it and roared with laughter throughout. They should make a TV programme about it, but no one would believe it.

My fifth heat pump book, Heat Pumps Explained, is out now. I wrote this one for the person starting from absolutely zero. I don't think people should need to learn the language of the heating trade before you can understand what someone is proposing for your home.

It’s available exclusively on Amazon in print and Kindle.

It’s been a summer of writing and editing (as I hid in dark rooms to escape heat wave after heat wave), and I’ve also finished completely rewritten 2027 editions of From Zero to Heat Pump Hero for existing owners and Bodge Buster for anyone planning an installation.

If you want more depth, there’s The Ultimate Guide to Heat Pumps. This one's also getting a 2027 refresh with new contributors and updated chapters.

If you’d rather learn step by step, our Heat Pump Fundamentals course is there too. Use INTRO50 for 50% off.

And if you work in the industry, follow the transition or just want the less polite account of how we got here, there’s Britain’s Heat Pump Shitshow.

One final heat pump book is expected at the end of October. Watch this space.
