Mars has written a new book about the heating industry. It’s brilliant. You will learn more about heating and heat pumps from the 95 pages of this book than you will from any training course or MCS assessment.

It’s not, as I first thought, a slagging-off of heating or heat pumps. It’s written like a novel about two households that find themselves needing new heating systems and consequently come into contact with the heating “profession”. You are in this book, so am I; everyone is. It highlights what homeowners, installers, manufacturers and the government do, where they do it well and where they do it badly.

I recommend that you buy this, take two hours out of your day and read it. It is only so laugh-out-loud funny because it’s true... all of it. It’s the kick up the arse we all need.

If you work with heat pumps, are a heat pump denier or are heat pump curious, this book is for you. I recommend that you DON’T buy any heating system, fossil fuel or renewable, without reading this. It will prepare you for the journey.

Years ago, there was a TV programme called White Gold. It was about the double-glazing industry in the 1980s, and it’s a brilliant and realistic portrayal of that industry at the time. This book is the White Gold of the UK heating industry today.

Thank you, Mars, for writing this. I absolutely loved it and roared with laughter throughout. They should make a TV programme about it, but no one would believe it.
