The pipe with the isolation valve with the blue handle, to what equipment does the pipe connect?

@derek-m I’m sure that’s for old biomass connection.

Can you send more detailed photos of the outside of the cylinder? I'm suspecting that it might be a thermal store...

There would appear to be two electrically operated valves, is that correct?

Does the flow pipe from the heat pump connect between these two valves?

It would appear that Hugh wishes to help, so rather than have too many 'cooks', I will leave you in his capable hands.

Best of luck in resolving your problems.

You are more than welcome.

I prefer to work through problems in a systematic and logical manner, particularly when the person seeking help is new to heat pumps. I suspect that having a number of forum members throwing different questions at them could actually be counterproductive.

It's going to be a difficult one to diagnose just off photos... I suspect that the ashp is batch charging the thermal store - that all needs re-plumbing if it ever stands a chance of working properly. Shame I'm basically the other end of the country.

This is one of the problems, you are arriving at conclusions without establishing the full facts.
