@cathoderay Ahh yes, the large white tank is an Ideal Logic Pre-Plumbed cylinder, so theres a 180l hot water tank at the top and the heating pipes run through the bottom which is why the CH1 pump is there - Long Welsh cottage needs some help with circulation! I believe there is an integrated buffer in the tank.

@wh0am3ye - OK, starting to make sense, but it does mean you have a buffer which as you will know from this forum is usually, though not always, not ideal, despite the brand name. But you are where you are, as indeed am I. I have a plate heat exchanger between the primary and secondary circuits, some loss of efficiency, but I have kept it for now as it does keep the potentially dirtier (though in practice so far it hasn't been) radiator circuit separate from the primary circuit.
