Home Assistant vs ESPAltherma.
I'm currently monitoring my Daikin Altherma3 H.P. using the Daikin API in Home Asssistant on a Raspberry PI. Are there any benefits and additional data to be gleaned by swopping to an ESPAltherma via an M5StickC ?
Thanks
Strictly speaking, your comparison isn't Home Assistant vs ESPAltherma; ESPAltherma is some code to use the M5StickC to query the heat pump as compared with the heat pump sending its info to Daikin's servers. Home Assistant is just as capable of using ESPAltherma on the M5StickC as its data source as it is using the Daikin API, so the question is whether querying the heat pump locally gives you visibility of more information than if you query the API. My guess is "yes", although not having a Daikin I couldn't be certain.
All that said, if you want to do any form of control as well, using ESPAltherma will mean you won't lose that control if your broadband line goes down. I've gone through a similar process with my Mitsi Ecodan and so I would suggest the ideal for you may well be to use ESPAltherma and set it up to send its data to Home Assistant so you're still keeping your monitoring in one place but getting more information (probably) more regularly (almost certainly) and more reliably (very probably) and locally. You can still build all the fancy graphs, buttons and stuff that Home Assistant provides, and you'll still be able to do some automating if you choose.
