Elementary mistake!!
Have a carpet fitter attending next week to properly refit carpets lifted and repair a tear following my recent ASHP instal. The installer arranged this and is paying the cost. There was also loose floorboards that were lifted to carry out pipe runs to upstairs radiators. In advance of the carpet guys attendance I decided to fix the floorboards myself. Cut a long story short I managed to screw directly into a concealed heating pipe. I know …… but I lost concentration and thought I was one floorboard across and away from water pipes. In panic I turned off the indoor and outdoor power to the ASHP and closed off all and any stop valves before draining down the radiators/heating system. Now only have cold water and don’t know how to run the internal immersion to get hot water. Scared to open valves in case I refill the radiators and start the leak over again. Wife already unimpressed with the blue glycol stain on one wall and ceiling downstairs. As you can imagine I can’t get hold of the installers and that will likely be the case until Wednesday! Going to be a cold and smelly, no showers, period. Thank goodness we have a log burner in the lounge at least. I feel such a fool ggrrr 🤬
Not looking for sympathy. Felt the need to vent as the wife isn’t ever so chatty at the moment.

I can imagine - my husband also 'fixed' loose floorboard years ago prior to getting a new carpet fitted... hammered nail straight through a pipe.
You have confirmed my need for a secondary heating source though.
Morgan I'm so sorry to hear that this happened. It's so frustrating, and I sincerely hope that you can get this fixed ASAP. Your immersion should be able to provide you with hot water though and that should be unaffected. Please let us know how you come along.

ouch, sorry to hear that. Your supplier may be able to help some time soon; I was complaining to them about my (lack of ) MMSP and they said they were too busy with emergencies at the moment.
Can you run the legionnaires programme to heat the water - I thought that used the immersion? You can set it to run every day if you want.

Thanks for the replies. Jason from the installers called me via face time and talked me through isolating the CH and getting the DHW running again via the ASHP. So still no CH till next week but hot water 👍. There’s only a short piece of speedfit 15mm pipe and a couple of connectors required to affect a repair. So if I can get into a local Homebase on Boxing Day I hope to be up and away again soon. 🤞

I have central heating back! 👏
Got into Homebase and purchased the pipe and joins etc sufficient to repair the damaged section. All filled up, bled, checked and turned on. All working with radiators heating up without leaks at the repaired section. Five hours later and even testing for a period with water flow upped to 50c no leaks. Returned to comp’ curve and await the ‘house’ to absorb the heat and get all cosy again. The relief is palpable and I might even be allowed some dinner tonight.

Hi Kev. I’ve still not replaced the ones over the repair as I need to ensure the repair is sound. Will fix them back tomorrow🤞. Otherwise all other loose boards are now fixed.
Impressed with my plumbing skills? You wouldn’t have had same opinion when I was running about like a headless chicken a couple of days ago turning anything and everything off and draining the system down. I have to be honest and admit to a period of panic before calming down and thinking/acting logically. Hey ho, what challenges us builds character 😂

@morgan, what a massive relief. So pleased you’re back up and running, just in time for the heat wave that’s about the hit the UK.
