How do I set up Tesla Powerwall export for saving sessions since AI Takeover?

I used to be able to edit the settings for my tariff so that export could be allowed during favourable times. It would appear that AI has carried out a takeover bid and no longer allows my editing of rates/times. Has anyone experienced this and how have you cut through the ‘AI knows best’ crap? I wish to carry on with Cosy fixed and Outgoing fixed but use ‘saving sessions’ to export from battery at lucrative times. Rewards (I hope) Toodles.

@old_scientist , @papahuhu and others with similar experience, might you have come across this new ‘feature’ yourselves? Regards, Toodles.

@toodles Sorry, I was always on IOF when it coincided with any of these flexible demand services. It all happened with any intervention.
The only way to get the powerwall to obey is to edit the tariff by extremes to “trick” the AI. Are you suggesting you can no longer edit? Mine can (or at least it did a week ago).

@papahuhu It appears that the AI has made a takeover bid - around which I have so far failed to find a chink in its’ armour! Regrets, Toodles.

@toodles Is it because storm watch has been activated and storms are active at the moment. I can edit mine ok and have stormwatch off.

@toodles

Did you set up your ToU tariff manually, or did you import the tariff from Octopus (new feature recently added a few months back)?

If you manually set up your tariff:

Go to Settings > Powerwall > Utility Rate Plan and you should be able to edit as normal.

Do not use the Settings > Utility Rate Plan shortcut as this does not offer the ability to edit a tariff that has been set up manually, only allows you to view the rates.

If you have imported your tariff information from Octopus using the new feature Tesla added a few months back, best to set your tariff up again manually from scratch.

Go to Settings > Powerwall > Utility Rate Plan

Then Change Rate Plan at bottom, and select Manual from the list (not Octopus), and set your ToU tariff up manually as we used to do before Tesla added the ability to import the tariff information from Octopus

Do not use the Settings > Utility Rate Plan shortcut as this does not offer the ability to edit a tariff that has been set up manually.

If you get an error when trying to Change Rate Plan, log out of the Tesla App and log back in again (they had issues with their servers earlier this week and I had to do this on Tesla's advice)

Give me a ring if you are struggling, and I can talk you through it 🙂

EDITED to restructure answer.

Samsung 12kW gen6 ASHP with 50L volumiser and all new large radiators. 7.2kWp solar (south facing), Tesla PW3 (13.5kW)
Solar generation completely offsets ASHP usage annually. We no longer burn ~1600L of kerosene annually.

(I didn’t know you could now import tariffs, does that mean I could automate Agile without the need to use a third party app, if I wanted to?) sorry, nothing to do with toodles woes.

@old_scientist Thank you, that is much clearer than the guesswork I have tried! I set up my Cosy and Outgoing tariffs last year after trying IOF for a month. I think Uncle Elon has been interfering! Set up from scratch and Cosy is showing for import. I could not select Manual as that did not appear in the list but after many attempts, did manage to persuade the blank text box to accept the word so that I could then progress. I will go back later after a hot drink and attempt to edit the export arrangements. Thanks again, Toodles.

To make things simple, I add an additional 1h time slot (mid-peak or other unused) in the evening. When you don't need it, just set it to the normal prices, but when there's a Saving Session, I can easily move the slot to the appropriate 1h time and bump up the Sell price to £1.00 to force export during that hour (don't forget to adjust the prices back to normal once the session has ended or the AI will make decisions assuming it's going to be the same again tomorrow).

It's a bit of a pain with the slots not always being at the same time, but you can move the slot around once set up with the sliders and then edit the buy/sell prices appropriately.
