@kevh Blimey you got a good rate. Here in the NW our cosy off peak rate was 14.3 and I had to fix and pay an exit fee to get that. We managed to stay off peak for all but the 4 coldest days with a 13.5kWh battery, cycling it like crazy. I’d need to triple that capacity to move to an EV type overnight tariff, not viable for me.

As an example, my teeny 5kWh battery saw us through winter at an average cost of around 14-15p /kWh, easily outpacing what we would have spent on gas (calculated by direct comparison to last winter and also comparing the Cosy9 output to current gas prices at a SCOP of 3.66).

Thats impressive, I averaged about 20.  I have been assuming I need a largeish battery (10-15kWh) but maybe I should re-evaluate the Cosy option with a smaller one!

I have just rechecked my figures: I averaged just on 14p overall, it was just over 15p on the 9 February bill, and back down to 14p on 9 March bill

I am still chuffed.

And if Octopus reduce the cheap windows I am knackered.

@kevh You must have worked that battery hard, that’s what they are there for. The triple period is essential for me, a double wouldn’t work without more capacity. On the coldest days it was guzzling 70-80kwh, gave me nightmares.

@jamespa, regarding the rest of your summary I'd have to say it's a pretty cynical view of the situation and I'm feeling very much in a cynical mood so whilst I was reading it I was nodding like a Churchill dog. It's somewhat depressing that outrageous assumptions no longer sound like hyperbole.

When even George Orwell resigns from the BBC, so uncomfortable with the anti Russian propaganda he’s been asked to generate, do you never question whether you too are still being manipulated by the state? Then being mandated to pay for your own indoctrination, you have to give them 10/10 for audacity.

Plenty of other outlets of various political pursuasions (and none) are reporting the Russian super yacht and nobody I have found is disputing it.  Thus I have no reason to doubt it.  Do you have reason to doubt it or are you just being mischievous for no justifiable reason, or indeed amplifying without evidence a campaign being carried out by other media against the BBC, motivated solely by the self interest of their proprietors.

Also the BBC is frequently accused of being right biased.  I'm struggling to see how it can be both right biased and promote anti Russian sentiment!

Your argument doesn't hold water so far as I can tell. I'm not saying the BBC is perfect, that's impossible, but in this case you I challenge you to support your accusation given that so many other outlets are reporting it and, if it were fake, that could easily be shown to be likely by consulting the tracker records.

Then being mandated to pay

You aren't mandated to pay.  A TV licence is required only of you watch live TV (including streamed live TV) or iPlayer.  If you only watch catch (other than iPlayer) up you don't need a licence.  If you don't want to pay you have the choice and, given the range of services available, it's a practical choice.

No it isn't, that's why we have elections.

Just be careful what values (as opposed to sexy sounding propaganda designed to deceive) you vote for and recognise the limits on what any Government can actually do when you assess performance in office.  Also bear in mind that we live in.a pluralistic society so you cannot expect to like everything any government does as it must be mindful of the majority not you specifically.

We are responsible for who we elect just as the American public is.  Choose wisely!

@jamespa I don't believe I have said anything other than attempt to make some light of this.

I am not going to take any lecture, or warning, from anyone about how I cast my vote.

The BBC attracts praise and criticism from all parlons. I believe most of it has merit.

Feel free to respond, but I will not be engaging with your "word baiting" on this.

Your "word smithed" rants around the forum are off-piste and  becoming tiresome.

Best for everyone if you would stick to where your contribution is valued, viz. imparting your scientific knowledge to a Renewable Heating Hub forum.

Bear in mind that my maximum daily draw over winter was a tad under 50kWh, typically it was around the 30kWh mark, which the battery took the sting out of.

If you have an EV I am sure your daily draw will be much higher, hence maybe a larger capacity battery might suit your circumstances better.

Personally I doubt that in my circumstances I would be any better served by a larger capacity battery at present, although that doesn't stop me eyeing them up when I read of the huge solar exports that some achieve.  As my wife reminds me, this is my home and not a power station. 🤣
