Trickle vents v mechanical ventilation
Thanks Jeff. The supplier I'm using is very hot on the regs, which is reassuring really. He's pointed out all the gaps and poorly finished areas of the old windows. They weren't particularly cheap 20 years ago but all the gaps were just covered by upvc trim outside and inside so leaking heat. This bloke strikes me as a perfectionist, and no doubt priced accordingly.

Then you may find he wants you to get building control to sign of any new ventilation prior to him installing new windows without vents if you go down that route.
Sounds like the last thing he would want is to fall foul of an audit inspection.
@heat-pump-newbie what did you decide to do with your ventilation in the end? I am having to make a similar choice soon, so any further information would help
@olly A combination of waiting to sell a property to fund the windows and general procrastination means I haven't actually had any work done yet. However I think a full MVHR system would be too awkward and expensive for us, so I hope to get someone to fit one of these in the bathroom (or similar as I haven't looked at this recently)
and go for the trickle vents as per the regs. If I can use my existing old warm air ducts one day for fresh air input then so much the better.
