Aira Heat Pump: Stylish Scandinavian Heating
@majordennisbloodnok intriguingly the Aira control unit (in our hallway) is stated by Aira documents to use Thread which is neat but is not accessible to me.
@vsmith1 If you have access to Home Assistant then you will be able to see all the data using this https://github.com/Invy55/ha-airahome

Aqara sells some inexpensive hubs (usb dongle size) that support Matter (I think Thread as well) and may provide a simple solution you. Or you may even have an Amazon echo or Google device that can handle Thread.
If you have @gmuzz or another helpful forum member assistance to get home assistant working (pun not intended), that would be great. The HA hardware would need to be near the control unit or pump (as BLE does not work well across walls). And you can also get into a new world of using ESP32 devices that convert BLE into wifi! Both of these have steep learning curves, but in my experience are a great way to keep more of my grey cells active!

Has anyone tried using the Smart Tariff Control on the Aira app? I set it up yesterday, but it randomly ran the DHW cycle during peak-rate electricity periods, both yesterday and today. I remember setting it up in the summer and it wasn’t working correctly then either, so I turned it off to check back once the heating season starts. It doesn't seem to be working properly yet.
Has anyone heard anything from Aira about how the Smart Tariff Control actually works?

@chandykris I also tried it in the summer. It seems to be programmed to alway have a full tank of hot water. Even with that inevitably runner the DHW during higher rates after morning showers. I've not reached out to Aira though, I just turned it back off.
@chandykris it's still buggy. It effectively deletes you dhw schedule and just heats the water whenever it needs to top up the cylinder.
They know they need to fix it and say they are working on something at the moment. Ad a minimum they should separate the dhw schedule from the heating control.
They still mention on the app that it if you choose smart tariff control they will shift DHW to off peak. They should at least tweak the app to remove that wording until they fix their algorithms. I have reached out to Aira Support, will update here when I hear their response.

Aira called me back today, but not sure we got to the actual problem. The support agent was just saying that if I am happy to set the manual schedule I should use that. They won't tell me whether there is a bug in their algorithms. So, I have just turned smart tariff control off. If they can preheat the house a bit during the off-peak hours slightly higher than the set temperature, I guess it will help. But, not sure how this works, so not going to experiment much and stick to the standard mode.

@trungdong Finally, I remembered to call Aira about servicing. Month later than I planned to! They mentioned that servicing is only every two years, so they will call and schedule next January. Also, the helpful customer service agent told me that the magnetic filter needs not be cleaned now if the flow is all fine, and will be checked during the service. But, asked me to call about the filter is there's any problem with the system.

@chandykris Nice, that's great. Thank you for the update!
Mine was commissioned in Sep 2024; I'll put in a reminder for myself for Sep 2026 and let you know how it goes then.

It has been just over a year since we changed over to an Aira heat pump and they swapped out all but one of our radiators. Really pleased with it and the service from Aira, they even came and fitted an extra radiator in a room that wasn't getting warm enough (their pre-install heat loss calculations reckoned that they could take out two old rads and put in one big one, but they should have just replaced both). We have an 8kW unit with a 250L tank.
I was very pleased with the Aira survey. Even if (more on that later) it did not last more than 15 minutes.
They booked the survey a few weeks in advance. But asked for no info, so only discovered basic stuff after arrival.
Great time management and comms on the day.
When she arrived, she was naturally looking to engage quickly. For praising, she used the quality of the EWI insulation (with lots of questions on the cost). We got past that relatively quickly, and also moved on from discussing our home battery details.
The conversation was pleasant. But early on, the buffer and justification for it showed some strongly held beliefs. Apparently their installation would not cause much disruption. A few seconds spent visually evaluating space for all the paraphernalia, we got to a new discussion point where I could sense some concerning pride in talking about a case where "the home owner did not want much disruption but, after getting into it,, agreed to around 18 holes in various parts of the house" to place new pipework and the like!
It looked like a lovely concept house from the external pictures, amazing what people can agree to! The redecorating cost and timeline must have been interesting..
Anyway, after 15 minutes intense discovery, we exchanged advice on mutual ways forward and parted ways.
It is clear that, if they keep to this approach, Ed's retrofit numbers will be made 99.99% from brands other than Aira.
For new build, they may be great though. If our green belt continues to be made into grey belt, perhaps the market will explode. But I suspect Aira is one for my next life.
