Good afternoon all,

My little sister has just had a company round to give them some information regarding the warmer homes scheme in Scotland.  They have informed them they can get Solar PV, new door, ASHP.  Great deal.  

The issue straight off the bat is the person who visited instructed her that the existing underfloor heating could not be used, and a new radiator system would need to be installed.    Apparently due to it being a government scheme everything has to be new.  I have never heard of this, has anyone here?  I am getting a strange smell of BS.  It sounds like they are trying to increase the cost of the install to get more money from the government.  There is nothing wrong with the existing underfloor system, I have checked it all over recently.  

Has anyone on here heard of this?

This seems very strange. Is the UFH electric or water?

#1 You would be crazy to put a whole lot of oversized radiators on the walls and then render that space less flexible than before [esp if you already have hydronic [water] UFH]

#2 UFH and Heat Pumps go very well together due to the lower water temperatures

I'm getting a strong whiff of bovine excrement and I am down in Yorkshire.

I would suggest that your little sister should contact whichever body in Scotland is responsible for authorising and paying these grants, since it is taxpayers who are being fleeced at the end of the day.

Yup, getting a sense of déjà moo here too.

Probably worth reporting to Trading Standards to get them closed down pronto.

The funds are through energy savings trust. Last year you could get an interest free loan for an ASHP of £10000 with £7500 cash back (ie you borrow 2500 and they give you £10000). For Sp and batteries you can borrow up to 11000 interest free. If it is over a certain amount the loan can run for 10 yrs. it requires EPC to confirm that it is needed or would help bring down energy needs and MCS certs for the ASHP and SP 

I suggest that your sister steer clear especially with the advice given - there is no money for radiators or ufh just the pump. It is a bit clunky but the system of loans and grants work we fitted ASHP so and battery’s all funded through the scheme last year. No need for a firm to do it we organised everything ourselves but the was no funding for the new rads and pipework - and they are not very instrusive in the house and work well
