Hi there. I'm in the same boat as you with a Flexi-orb accredited installation and really wanting to export to Octopus on their "Outgoing Octopus" tariff. My installer knew I was an Octopus customer who wanted to export and yet he still sold me a system back in March. I have been waiting quite a while for the handover pack to come through but now it has I think I know why he was dragging his feet. So, I'm most interested in how you managed to get Octopus to agree to your application. I've not yet broached the issue with Octopus and so far I've kept my powder dry but don't want to set off down the wrong track and make some silly mistakes. Any advice will be treasured!
When I applied for flux 3 weeks ago, the only file upload was for the DNO confirmation. For MCS you put your MCS number in a box and it validated it before you could continue. If there is a way to persuade Octopus on Flexiorb then it would be great though.

Getting Octopus to change their mind on the Flexi-Orb versus MCS issue is probably only going to be resolved if enough people complain to the Energy Ombudsman. This is where I suspect I'll end up. One thing is for sure, I won't be letting this drop anytime soon.

I'm on Flux and I love it. My prices are 20p/34p/47p (East of England).
Now that the price cap is changing, has anyone heard from Octopus when they are going to adjust their Flux prices?
Under the new price cap, electricity is going down 4p to 30p/kWh if you're on a price capped tariff.
But what does that mean for Flux... can we expect a corresponding drop, say to 16p/30p/43p?
perhaps just as importantly or maybe even more important is a likely cut in export rates?
With Tracker import consistently under 17p (just 15.5p tomorrow) we should expect a significant cut to export rates

@tim441 Quite right. I'm really on Flux for the great export rates. One could say:
'Actually, the price cap fall means nothing for Flux customers. Because what you win through lower import prices you lose to lower export rates.'
That's not totally true, though, because my generation is about 6MWh/year and my use is about 12MWh. So I still prefer lower import rates.
In general, I just wonder what is Octopus's thinking about Flux. How do they set the different rates and is it proving a good business proposition for them?
On the import side, the thinking seems pretty simple. Set the day rate at roughly the price cap rate. Give the customer a 3 hour night-time session discounted by 14p. And give the customer a 3 hour evening penalty session marked up at 14p. All equalises assuming no load shifting... but if the customer wants to load shift, then they can save themselves a few quid. And the company is no worse off if the customer decides to load shift.
But as Tim says I'm tickled to know how they worked out the export rates they're giving us... because those do seem quite generous compared to the agile export prices. Can anyone guess Octopus's thinking about this?
And predictions for the future?

so worth considering locking in the standard fixed export at 15p. Fixed 1 year... and combine with Tracker import.
Very much depends on personal appetite for what might happen in future... and own usage kwh, time of use etc

@tim441 Yes, I expect you're right about the export rates going down more when the July changes get implemented.
Longer term, where will it stabilise, I wonder. It should all turn out to be some kind of predictable multiple of the Agile rates, just smoothed over three daily time periods rather than 30 minute blocks.
if Tracker stays where it is... I think we could see all rates drop by 50%!!!!

people could be in for some shocks... both positive and negative

I just signed up to Flux as the numbers made loads of sense for me (I'll be a net exporter for at least until September and have a battery too).
When do you actually get paid for the export? Do they calculate it monthly with your bill? Is there any way of seeing daily what's happening?

You get paid when you receive a bill. If you want one sooner you can always give them some manual meter readings to generate one.
If you’re on iOS then Octo-Aid is a great free app you can link your 🐙 account to get daily data on exports etc (see photo). Octopus Watch is another one (one off cost of £1.99) which is iOS and Android.
