I must confess that I am unconcerned by the buffer/volumiser tank, though at the time it was another item to shoehorn into the limited space we had available.

What I do want, and not sure where to start, is to get Aira to, at least, release a API that can be used by Home Assistant, to read the ASHP operational state and consumption. At best, release a supported Home Assistant Integration. In the meantime, I am contemplating using a Shelly EM unit with CT to at least monitor the electrical consumption. There are HA integrations/HACS for Octopus, GivEnergy and I have a few Power Monitoring smart plugs for individual sockets/devices, but the consumption by the Aira system is just lumped into the "untracked consumption".

Anyone any thoughts?

Having joined the Aira owners group on Facebook (for some heat pump research I am part of), they have completely locked the system down. I’m also suspicious of the COP’s being given too. In my opinion, their designs are sub-optimal for homeowners (good for them though) and I’m sure if we had independent monitoring it would show this.

@pirate-rich Keen to hear a bit more about the erroneous COP figures. I assume you mean the stated heat outputs are wrong. The electricity delivered seems to match the power consumption shown on.our Growatt inverter. Are COPs getting inflated, or are they just wrong. Recently watched a Jonathan Tracey YouTube video who highlighted similar issues with his Daikin COP figures.

I don't know how they did it, but there is an Aira on Heatpumpmonitor: https://heatpumpmonitor.org/dashboard?id=366

It doesn't seem great, but I can't really draw a conclusion on a sample size of one.

  • @chandykris The Daikin app is very iffy, I take a very large shovel of salt when looking at the graphs it shows. Jonathan Tracey points out that the resolution is poor and rounding up and down is very haphazard indeed; might this be the same with other makes of HP and their apps? Toodles.

@steelbadger really interesting to see an Aira unit on Open energy monitor. I've not seen anyone's app quote such a low COP like that one. The Apps data must be getting something wrong. I'd love to know what their app figures are showing in comparison to what open energy monitor is showing.

I asked about the reassuring15 year guarantee which I have just checked now is still advertised online as a reason to buy from them. Our sales rep admitted when I asked about this said, today, Monday 6 January was the final day they were offering the 15 years guarantee which has now ended. But if we agreed a sale now we would still be able to get the 15 years guarantee.

I don’t know if Aira did stop their 15 year guarantee because I’ve just been to their website and it’s still there.

It has been just over a year since we changed over to an Aira heat pump and they swapped out all but one of our radiators. Really pleased with it and the service from Aira, they even came and fitted an extra radiator in a room that wasn't getting warm enough (their pre-install heat loss calculations reckoned that they could take out two old rads and put in one big one, but they should have just replaced both). We have an 8kW unit with a 250L tank.

Bills over the year were 21% less than the corresponding period the year before, though we did come off gas entirely so are saving on a standing charge.

Efficiency on their app for heating ranged between a low of 3.5 in March and a high of 6.0 in December. Hot water ranged from 2.8 in January to 4.4 in July and August.

The house is a 4 bed 1931 semi-detached.

We are not yet a full year. But we started with the installation during the -6degC week in January. Our heating efficiency on heating has been from 3.8 (March) to 6.1 (October) with no usage in June-September. The initial week was 4.1. On the hot water side, 2.6 (January) to 3.8 (August). We have a 100l indoor unit. They replaced 7 of 9 radiators, and three replacements were vertical, because of a lack of wall-space. Most of the replacements were due to type T11 (K1) and swapped out for Type 21 or 22. We have been happy. Not used the "prepare extra hot water: button. We have the Tank temp at 55degC (Eco saver). On the heating settings we have the control unit in the hallway - foot of the stairs, next to the kitchen - set to 19degC. We found in some early adjustments that this setting made the lounge/living room at an acceptable (to us) room temp of 19-20degC. We have a nighttime cooldown of up to -3degC off the 19degC between 21:00-06:00. We are on Intelligent Octopus Go and have that set in the Aira app.

My disappointment is with the app/data and access. The app has improved even with our 11 months usage. Though I contacted Aira to see if the was any API access - even read-only so I could see about getting the data into anything, such as Home assistant. Or whether Aira had plans for a HA access route. Unfortunately not. Not even an export and download data option. I am now considering getting a Shelly EM with CT clamp to measure the total electricity usage and feed that into HA.

Same here, we got Aira heat pump installed towards the end of January when it was very cold. It's a 6 kWh heat pump and we swapped/upgraded 9 radiators and left a few as-is. There was one issue with the open plan kitchen living dining room not getting warm enough, but Aira sorted that out by installing a K3 radiator instead. Our COP has ranged around the 4.5 figure for heating. With the battery and solar panels, we are probably saving more than 50% on our heating bill! So, happy from that perspective. Not to mention the fact that the house is warm all the time and also all parts of the house are warm. No fluffing around with Tado and schedules and cold spots.

But, not sure I trust the hot water efficiency figure enough. Our March numbers are mathematically not possible. The overall electricity consumption seems to match what I see on the Growatt inverter app and on the Octopus app for real time consumption figures when we are using the grid after the battery runs out. I have raised the same with Aira customer service. I think they must be excluding legionella from the hot water efficiency and there's some other error. But, overall happy with the performance so far. We should use around 3000 kWh for heating and hot water for the whole year, and probably spend around £350.

These savings are on top of savings around £300 in boiler servicing/insurance as we managed to get the Aira all-inclusive coverage for 15 years as part of the quote.

@chandykris I have the same 15-year guarantee, but haven't received any contact from Aira regarding regular services. Have you?

My heat pump was commissioned in September 2025, BTW.

I received some photos from a homeowner this weekend that has recently had an Aira unit installed. Generally, it looks like a tidy install, but I was intrigued by the way it's chained to the wall. Is this standard for all other Aira installs? This is, according to the homeowner, a 12kW unit, so quite tall.
