Electric vehicles
If want to wait for mainstream V2G to join the EV revolution, it looks like you might be waiting for a few years yet.

Just a bit more on battery degradation, as I didn't want to seem like it doesn't happen. Like any component in a car, they are subject to wear and tear and they will slowly lose capacity as they age, but this lose has been much lower than originally expected. Plus most EV batteries are covered with long warranties.
A lot of the issues regarding battery degradation comes from peoples experience of mobile phone and laptop batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are notorious for their lack of longevity in these kinds of devices, so when people see that this is the same type of battery that is fitted to cars, then there is the worry that they behave in the same way. The lithium-ion batteries fitted in cars have a different chemistry makeup to your phone battery as the environment they work in is completely different.
If your current car usage would support a shorter range, small car, then there are now plenty of cheaper used Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe and BMW i3 to dip your toe in the water of EV ownership, until V2G comes along.
Thanks @foggy – I was coming at it from a PV battery perspective. I can't make the numbers work. The batteries are expensive, with a life of less than 10 years. From an ROI perspective, it's just not worth it, in my opinion.
EV is slightly different in that this is transportation and you'll be saving on fuel. We hardly ever use our car, and even less since Covid struck, so it'll make sense to get an EV that can double up as a home battery - the economics makes a lot more sense, provided that it doesn't impact too much on the battery life.
Is V2G available/working anywhere in the world right now?

Hi Mars,
I posted some time ago about that community in Utrecht that was doing just that, using their EV's as battery storage.
It's happening in the UK too. A trial with Ovo energy and Nissan.

@editor Mars the worlds largest V2G trial has been running through Octopus Energy and a number of suppliers https://octopus.energy/blog/vehicle-to-grid/
It uses Nissan Leafs and a wall box called Power Loop I think but as stated above, it’s only Chademo connector that works CCS being developed, but a few years away. My Honda e us V2G capable, but need to CCS protocol and compatible wall box. and for V2G wall boxes to come down in price - they are more than £3k currently
