Posted by: @justinsb@kev-m TBH, I'm now thinking that I should go Economy 7, as my Solar Panels ought to take care of much of the daytime usage, hopefully.
Hi Justin,
I'm afraid that your solar PV system will not provide much of the power that will be required by your ASHP, so the higher tariff of the daytime electricity may make it more expensive in the long run. Your ASHP will probably be using more energy overnight, so the sums may add up.
I am about to post the modelling tool spreadsheet under Kev's trend, which you may find of use in making your decision.
@derek-m I'm finding my batteries are very useful in bringing down my current tariff. However for those without batteries I think the payoff may be marginal. I imagine you'll end up being broadly flat in terms of average price

Hi Batalto,
You are probably correct. I have considered batteries and some additional solar panels, but since we are still using the gas boiler for the major heating load, I'm not certain of the benefit.
My other concern would be if tariffs like Octopus Go will still be available into the future, given what has been happening in the energy markets.
@derek-m to be honest, they've delivered a lot of value just with the solar. Adding in Go just gives me even greater benefit
We’ve been without power since midnight courtesy of storm Arwen. Latest update is we’re back on tomorrow with power. Fires are on.

@editor that makes me nervous as we have no fires... Then again, we aren't exactly remote
On the plus side we’re not paying 24p/kWh of power today 😀

@editor if it makes you feel better, we've used about 80kw today with heating, hot water and general life - so you avoided all of that
Yup. We pulled 63Kwh in the past 24 hrs too, so it's not a cheap time for ASHP people...
@justinsb, it certainly isn’t going to be a cheap winter for heating using heat pumps. We had a few days in February where we exceeded 100kWh which cost us around £11 - this year it’ll be £24. Crazy times.
