From BBC Nottingham 11-12-2025.
This was the moment a shed "exploded" after an e-bike was left on charge in a shed in Stapleford.
It's prompted a warning from firefighters and trading standards officers about the dangers of counterfeit batteries and leaving e-bikes unattended while on charge overnight.

Yes, often the message is that all lithium batteries are a fire risk.

The ones used in home battery storage are lifepo4 and used with a bms.

This a good thread debunking the conflation..

Good point about the difference. I think a lot of the public messaging ends up lumping all lithium batteries together, which can make the risk seem the same across the board. Incidents like this often seem to involve cheaper or counterfeit batteries or charging setups without proper protection. Still a good reminder not to leave devices charging unattended for long periods, especially in enclosed spaces like sheds.

Unfortunately that "public messaging" includes PAS63100, which is the safety standard written by the IET for installing home battery storage. 🤔

On the subject of recharging LiMNC cells improperly, did you notice that a witness to yesterday's devastating fire in Glasgow said that it started from a collection of chargers? The Vape Shop was charging multiple vapes via 'adaptors' below the counter.
