What was that all about!?

I log in and was required to go through the old capture process identifying hydrants and motor bikes to prove I'm not a robot.  Having succeeded I'm then taken to my profile dashboard before I'm able to select 'forums'.  Weird.


Retrofitted 11.2kw Mitsubishi Ecodan to new radiators commissioned November 2021.

@morgan, since the beginning of the year, we've upgraded the security on the backend of the site. This week, there has been a significant increase in nefarious activity, so the system has tightened its security net, which has more than likely resulted in the "not a robot" check.

I never switch off the main computers which are used for external/internet communications.
They might have the screen locked, or the memory put into Suspend, but the processors are still alive.
It's very rare that I ever get asked to log back in to the Forum.

Even when I've downloaded browser upgrades, which require Firefox to be restarted, all the Forum tabs are recovered and I can usually continue without logging in.

Sometimes I've continued using the Forum for a month without having to re-enter a password.

Nothing I'm doing since the change of platform has indicated that the Forum is in any heightened state of security.
The system seems to offer me a surprisingly wide range of trust. 🤔 

... which is odd... because I am a robot

You've touched on interesting point though. It seems that Firefox and Chrome are also more "robust" and dare I say it "trustworthy". I occasionally get Morgan's robot scenario when using Safari, but never when on Chrome.

I think that level of security is called parental controls.

It's like my mother used to say "Never trust a man with an old Mac" 🙄

@transparent I’m a 76 year young old man with 10 Macs., iMacs, iPads, iPhones and an Apple Watch altogether in our house, I don’t stand a chance of a login do I? 😉

Chrome is far from trustworthy. Just look at some of the stunts Google have pulled with it and some they are accused of still pulling. It just has a sufficiently big market share that no-one wants to upset that many clueless users at once and have to deal with the support requests.

And the same just now in Safari on iPad!  Earlier was on Firefox windows desktop.

@editor Strangely enough…. I can login, read and comment on the forum, go away for a while then comeback; at such times, I may or may not be asked to login again. I cannot determine if there is a default time before I am required to login again or not; when I do login again, I can ignore the request about proving I am a human and still login again without a problem. iPad using Safari browser.
