Planning Permission for Air Source Heat Pumps

Hi, my name is Tony and I'm new to this forum, having just discovered the very useful and information Home Farm videos. Whilst I've thought about installing an heat pump for a couple of years, initially a ground source and later an air source I've finally decided to take the plunge as we're renovating our house and now is the perfect time to install underfloor heating and a new heating system (the current one looks like it dates back to 1980's or even earlier). As I'm installing the Caernarfon 18KW from Global Energy which is the same make and model that has been installed in Home Farm so I'm interested in the following from anyone else who has installed this model 1) How are the noise levels in reality? How far away from the unit do you need to move before you no longer hear the unit? What is the ambient noise level in the location when the unit is not operating? 2) The manufacture quotes efficiencies of 320%+ depending on the surrounding temperature and the required water temperature. I noticed in one article on Home Farm installation the efficiency was much lower at 266%. Is this due to the installation being 20m from the water tanks and hence there's heat loss in the pipes between the two and also energy required to pump the hot water between the ASHP and tanks? 3) Has anyone had experience of the Octopus Energy Agile tariff? This charges you a rate set each 1/2hr tied to wholesale prices and varies between 6p/kWh and 26p/kWh over the course of the day but can be as low as 2p removed link I have signed up for this but after 8 months I'm still waiting for them to arrange a new meter to be installed. Has anyone managed to get a Agile meter installed and if so has it reduced your costs? Thanks Tony

I've just reviewed our legal guard policy and the only area where our policy would potentially apply to Sam's issue is breach of contract under "buying your main home". I would assume that if the ASHP was mentioned in the contract, there would be potential grounds to activate the policy. But I've only read the summary page and if Sam does this coverage under her insurance, it's definitely worth a call.
