Octopus Cosy 6 launched

However I do agree that, by the time you take into account drains, airbricks and other openings, they can be quite restrictive, particularly since we currently pipe into our houses an unlimited supply of methane.
Do bear in mind, though, that methane is lighter than air and so dissipates easily and won’t naturally pool in drains and underground voids.
That’s not to say regulations are or are not overly restrictive; just that there’s not a lot to be gained by comparing R290 with mains gas in terms of safety procedures.

Fair enough, but gas explosions are not unknown and the quantity is not limited.
You can also have a 13kg propane cannister in a boat or caravan. The location where its stored has to be ventilated (in a boat, not sure about a caravan), but its piped into the interior where it could pool, eg in the bilges.
4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
Agreed, @jamespa, and I remember seeing a video whereby the RNLI teamed up with some Royal Navy ordnance experts to demonstrate the effect of (and likelihood of) pooled bottled gas igniting in a boat. The results were certainly dramatic.

@majordennisbloodnok But it took them several attempts! Toodles
Toodles, he heats his home with cold draughts and cooks his food with magnets.

Absolutely. An explosion requires a very specific set of conditions and they took three or four attempts to understand those conditions in detail. Once they found them, of course, the boat was utterly obliterated, and we all hace a better understanding of what not to do.

Oh dear, someone majorly goofed at Octopus. They've credited me back about a year's worth of bills today. Bumping my account credit from £375 to £1568. Maybe it was someone's last day today and they 'wanted to do a Robin Hood'. Anyone else had an unexpected Octopus windfall today? If it was an Octopus IT fekk-up, then it will be someone's last day next Friday...
It's very generous, but I've Emailed them asking if they want to correct it. 😉

😆 I would have been tempted to see how good their forensic accounting is 🤣
