I worry I've messed my Samsung settings up somehow
In spring I suffered from an overpowered heat pump causing an excessively hot house due to weather compensation not being able to run cool enough. After consulting here I changed the settings so the thermostats turned it off when the temp got too warm. 2091 to 1.
This seemed to work well in spring stopping the overheating and bringing the monthly electricity usage down a bit.
Now it's fully warm though the thermostats are never requesting the heat pump to turn on but my electricity usage seems stubbornly high. We tend to get through a fiver a day which we were nowhere near in the August when I first got the heat pump (and it was never in for heating).
I also on occasion walk in and see the water outlet (which I think is heating not water, but may be wrong) at a high temperature eg 60c
Does anyone have any idea what I may have done wrong? Or does a fiver a day electricity seen reasonable (5 bed house, 4 people, a few gadgets, HP water heating) in this weather? Heat pump is a 12kw r290 one.
Thanks in advance
Not bad at a fiver , I am 6 to 7 pounds , total electricity and only two of us, I am in scotland , Elgin , so colder nights .
No buffer and no Homely or otherwise.
@terry Hmm makes it tough to figure out remotely what's going on. The water outlet temp shouldn't be 60C though.
I would say:
- Did you try turning the heating off on the Samsung controller?
- What's the daily energy consumption of the heat pump? You should be able to see that on the Samsung controller under Energy Information if I remember correctly

@hcas thanks, I didn't realise I could look at energy. Usage attached, operation time too
So it seems to be using very little, except for Tuesdays when it does a legionella cycle (would that explain the 60c? Although my 60c photo was a Wednesday)
So looking at my octopus account my electricity usage is only a tiny bit up on Tuesdays, which makes me think the heat pump isn't a great contributor and I've sent you all on a wild goose chase.
Sorry but thank you for educating me on my ability to view energy usage.
I had an issue like this last year, when my COP halved overnight, it turns out I'd unintentionally turned on the electric immersion heater for all hot water. FS 3031
So might be worth checking that out.
Samsung Gen6 8kw ASHP in a two bed victorian mid terrace.
Looking at the figures on your screenshot, it looks like the legionella cycle is costing you about 18kWh extra on the Tuesdays.
It takes 17.5kWh energy to heat 300l of water from 10 deg to 60 deg so I think you might want to look closer at your water heating.
The operation time hints that you're using the immerser to do your water heating.
Assuming you are using the heatpump on a not cold tank to do your water heating this electricity consumption seems way off.
@derekdeleon hello
So you think I'm using the immersion all the time for my water heating. Rather than the heat pump.
I could see how that would treat the electricity.
Just seen the comment above. I'll check the setting
