Not quite the end of September, but close enough. Here are my results for 8.4kw solar system with 14.2kwh battery

Production: 754kw

Consumed: 649kwh

Battery Discharge: 264kw

Power purchased: 66kw

Hi Batalto,

If we had more people like you then we would not have an energy crises. Please don't let the media see the word crises, otherwise there will be a run on gas and electricity because of panic buying.

@derek-m the numbers lie a bit as we have an innflatable hot tub. I've just put it away (on Sunday), but it loves power. It uses 2kw per hour, so when the sun was shining I would get it nice and hot. Without it I am sure I would have dumped more into my tank.

Where it says export to grid should be cavaeted with *including immersion heating hot water tank. I imagine almost all of that power went into that, rather than the grid.

@batalto, great numbers. Will be interested to see how they stack up over the winter.

@editor this is the impact of the heat pump running over the night

Hi Batalto,

I would be interested to see the variation in consumption over the full 24 hours, to see the effects of solar production and variation of the ambient air temperature.

@derek-m you'll have to wait then. The heating only just came on last night. However it's also a terrible day for sun, so doubt we'll make much anyway.

@batalto Hi Batalto,

No problem with waiting. You may have to move to sunny Yorkshire, I'm getting 1.5 kW from a 4 kW system at the moment.

@derek-m looking at the data quickly

3am it was 5 degrees here (according to the met office) and we used (at peak) 2.14kw. Our base load is 320w per hour so the ASHP and associated gubbins in the house e.g. pumps to move the water was using about 1.8kw. It came on at 2.20am and went off at 3am. Came back on at 3.30am but the temperature outside was up to 7 degrees and the power dropped to 1.5kw. Now its 16 degrees and its using 1kw (when it kicks in).

Note, I do have weather compensation so the flow temperatures would have also been increasing with that drop.

@batalto

Hi Batalto,

Yes, I know you have weather compensation enabled. As an Engineer I have spent a great deal of time optimising control systems for best efficiency and reliability. To be able to do so, it is necessary to ascertain what is actually happening within the process and the effect of changing parameters. It is therefore first of all necessary to see what data is available and then decide which are the important parameters to monitor. On a home heating system there aren't that many variables, some of which it may not be possible to monitor.

If you have the time you could record the water flow temperature, along with the ambient air temperature, and the data that you are already collecting, so that you can plot the effect of changes within the system.

Are you varying the desired setpoint during the day?

@derek-m I don't know how I would collect the flow temperature, frankly. I'd need to get some kind of probe - unless I can get it from the heat pump app. I'll need to check. Ambient is easy, I'll just check the Met office. Rough graph below for you, some of the peaks are the ASHP refilling the hot water tank and also normal day to day living e.g. a kettle. However the night time stuff is 100% the ASHP along with the post morning spikes.
