Using ECODAN with Hive stat
I wasn't talking about stats in each room; just one, or maybe two if you have two zones. Lots of individual room stats can be a problem for the reasons you say. TRVs are OK as long as you don't turn too many down so that your ASHP is only heating one or two rooms. We have TRVs and most are on max but we turn the bedrooms down a little. Not off, just down.
Posted by: @brooster@kev-m that’s kind of what my installer says but I only have TRVs in each room and from other research I’ve done the advice seems to be to leave them on max and don’t create cold spots as that makes the pump work harder as the emitting area is artificially reduced leaving the pump to work harder to push out the same heat through a smaller available area? TRVs are clearly not as sophisticated as individual stats in each room. That said three rooms face due South and when/if the sun shines they can easily get to 23 with solar gain which kind of throws everything out of whack anyway…
One possible way to get reasonably constant temperature control throughout your home would be to site the thermostat, but no TRV, in the coldest room, and use TRV's in the other rooms to limit the temperature.
You may still get temperature variations, since for the thermostat to operate, there is a required temperature difference between switching on and switching off. Also I am not certain how accurate and repeatable TRV's may be.
It should still be possible to use TRV's with weather compensation control, just don't fit one to the heat emitter in the coldest room.
