Newbie question
I apologise for asking this question, because I would never have asked it about a gas boiler......
We don't yet have the ASHP (but it's on its way!) so this might become obvious, but today it's 15C outside and I have the patio doors open. We'll likely want the ASHP to heat the house to 20C. So would we need to turn off the heat pump timer, or turn down the desired temp on the thermostatic controller so that it's not running and heating the house on a day like today where the internal temperature is sufficient (but lower than the target temperature)? Or would the weather compensation just understand that it doesn't need to be heating? With a gas boiler we'd just turn off the timer or turn down the thermostat.
@alistair,
It depends on how you are conrolling the system. If it's solely weather compensation, it should keep the house at a constant temperature whatever it is outside. If you want it to be cooler temporarily, then opening the windows would do it. The ASHP would keep the flow temperature the same but your house would be losing more heat so would be cooler.
Depending on your setup, if you're using thermostats then turning it/them down could have a similar effect to turning the ASHP off. But it depends on the ASHP as some can use both room and outside temperatures together.
What ASHP are you getting?
Hi there - thanks for the answer 🙂
We are going to be getting an 11kW Daikin Monobloc

There is a feature with at least some Dakin controllers to adjust the room temperature either up or down when using weather compensation. But suggest you check this is actually available with any setup you finally choose and what it actually does.
