looking at what i can use in my new kitchen if i get a heat pump fitted. due to so many doors and units using the rest i need to look at plinth heaters.

ive seen some that say they work with heat pumps, though surely if im running my system 24/7 the fans on them would also be running 24/7?

only other option is some sort of heating from the ceiling, as the heating pipe work is accessible at the moment?

I have one Mitsubishi wall mounted fan coil in my otherwise all radiator ASHP system, installed because a passive radiator wouldn't fit. It's in the room we spend most time in, which is part kitchen, part living room.  It was sized so that, at the design OAT, it runs at low fan speed (it auto adjusts fan speed based on its measurement of room temperature).  Im really pleased with it and so is my wife.

The fan is just audible from 2m away when operating but is easily drowned out by any other noise including talking, the TC etc.  Maybe I wouldn't want it in a bedroom (although it is white noise so fairly soothing) but in a living room totally acceptable.

The only potential problem is that it shuts down if the flow temperature is <30C, a figure which you cant adjust.  As it happens thats OK for me because, when that occurs, the other radiator in the room plus solar gain is sufficient to keep the room warm.  But I could imagine situations where this could be a limitation and if it is then there are other models where the low FT limit is adjustable.

I hope that helps.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.

Silly questions, perhaps, but is it a large room and whereabouts is it in relation to the rest of the house?

105 m2 bungalow in South East England
Mitsubishi Ecodan 8.5 kW air source heat pump
18 x 360W solar panels
1 x 6 kW GroWatt battery and SPH5000 inverter
1 x Myenergi Zappi
1 x VW ID3
Raised beds for home-grown veg and chickens for eggs

about 3.1mx5m south facing so with the new patio doors will likely have massive solar gain.

@adamk https://www.saturnsales.co.uk/I-Life2-Slim-DLMV-170-ATS2-Fan-Assisted-Radiator.html is the one I have, there is a smaller one but the size difference is quite small and obviously the fan will have to work harder on the smaller one for any given output

And just for the absence of doubt...

When you say "new kitchen" you mean that it's not just a new room but also that the room has already had the units, cupboards, worksurfaces and stuff installed (i.e. far too late to get underfloor heating installed).

What power do you need at what FT?

will thio one do https://www.saturnsales.co.uk/I-Life2-Slim-DLMV-80-ATS2-Fan-Assisted-Radiator.html

otherwise it looks like a kickspace heater is what you need

The fan-assisted jobbie @jamespa has linked to looks great. If not, I must admit the hydronic plinth heaters look like a really good option as well although whilst they'll obviously plumb into a central heating circuit fine I've no idea how well they'd work with the "run it low and slow" setup that is ideal for a heat pump - I'm no plumbing expert.

seen these but not sure they will output much unless i have several, due to the rated output being at 55c. but they do turn on at 30c.

@majordennisbloodnok we have an under plinth heater (a Myson) and it was set up for occasional heating with the gas boiler. The only change for use on the heat pump and much lower flow temperatures was to switch to summer mode. That makes the thermal switch off inactive but the fan still pushes out the heat.

2kW + Growatt & 4kW +Sunnyboy PV on south-facing roof Solar thermal. 9.5kWh Givenergy battery with AC3. MVHR. Vaillant 7kW ASHP (very pleased with it) open system operating on WC
